How do I shave the sideburns so that they are the same length? I had trouble before when using a cartridge(one was longer then the other).

I don't know of any other way to do it unless you want to use a ruler. Biggrin

or, if you're using glasses, use the frame as a frame of reference (bad pun, I know).

I do what the others do and use my ears to help make my sideburns even.

I would also always use my cartridge razor to trim up my sideburns, not a DE or SE.

I use a straight or straight shavette for my sideburns, as it leaves a very straight line. I found that lining my index fingers on both sides of my face at the same time, provides a great starting point for where each sideburn should start, and, for me, better than using a reference point on my ears, as they are not even. I used to use my gold plated Merkur Slant for my sideburns, as it was easier to see the blade against the gold color razor. Lastly, when all else fails, I go to the barbershop for a haircut, and the barber lines them up. Hope something here works well for you!

In the 70's I used to use a straight edge (from a geometry set), draw. Line with a washable ink pen. Shave to the line then wash off the mark. Eventually the line does not require marking.

Like Rockford above, I mark with my index fingers and look in the mirror. If I use my ears things will be slightly (but noticeably) off.

it is not likely that people see both your sideburns at the exact same time - so if slightly off it will go unnoticed.
