To all the Feather users out there, how far are you willing to push the blade? I recently found that 3 and out is perfect for me if I want nice, clean shaves, every time. But sometimes I try getting an extra shave out of it.
Tonight, I decided to go for that extra shave, and pushed it to 4 with the same blade. This proved to be a bad decision. A couple weepers on jaw line and minor irritation. I have not cut or irritated my skin in a long time until tonight!
I have learned a valuable lesson from tonight's shave. I will try and really stick to my "3 And Out Rule" even though, I do wish deep down, these blades would last longer! They are certainly not the cheapest.. But a clean, smooth shave is what counts in the end.

I haven't found a blade I can use other than feather and I personally get anywhere from 5-7 shaves from a feather.

I love the Feather blades in mild/smooth razor like the Weber DLC, or a pre-war Tech. I don't usually push blades but I'm good with 4 shaves or so (I have a goatee, so there's a bit less surface area per shave thank most folks. Unless I'm counting head-shaves, but I've gone to SE razors for that).
I love Marius' carving of bread slippers with Feather blades, though. I'm not sure what kind handle is used, if any!

I have a very dense, coarse beard and get 5-7 shaves from a Feathers using my 37c.
I used to like Feathers a lot - especially when my daily weapon was a Progress. Now that I use a slant - I find them a tad too harsh. My new fav is the Indian 7'o'clock black. No 3rd choice.

Usually do 2-3 passes, usually 2 1/2 (the 1/2 being an extra direction on the neck) for a high quality DFS close to BBS. These are my favorite blades and mostly all I use.

I've been using only straight razors for a bit now, but the feather was one of my best blades for DE razors, usually in a 1908 Gillette Single Ring. I'd typically get 15-20 shaves from a blade, all perfectly smooth & comfy. They seem to irritate some folks but were always a very smooth shave for me.

Gents:
In my particular case of coarse beard I get about 5-7 shaves. My second choice are the Polsilver Super Iridium, with those I get 3 max. Love both.
In the other hand, I have a non folding face knife razor from feather an I use on that one the proguards, with those I only get 2 max. I will try the pro and see if they are the same.
thanks
Ken
