Ok, new here so will have an intro coming tomorrow but for now I am shooting off this question. I will be having my father make me a brush handle for christmas, but I am unsure what loft would be best for synthetic. I am eyeing the knots from tgn (24mm) but the loft seems really high (65mm). This will be used for leg shaving, and I plan to lather on the leg using creams and soaps. Any advice would be helpful.

I have a TGN 24 synthetic sitting in front of me and the loft mentioned of 65mm if from the tip to the bottom of the plug. So when the hole is drilled in the handle your loft will end up somewhere between 50-55mm.
Some like the loft higher on synthetics, but I am not sure for legs. You may consider having him drill the hole at ~15mm deep and then you can temporarily secure it (I have used a small piece of packing tape on the plug) and adjust the loft (can put a coin under the plug to lift) and see where you like it before you glue it permanent.

Welcome to TSN. As Mike pointed out, the 65mm figure is the measurement of an unmounted knot from the tip to the bottom of the plug. The actual loft of the brush will depend on how deep your father drills the hole in the handle. For a 24mm synthetic, I would have him drill the handle so you end up with a 55mm loft.

The base knot height as is from the TGN is all right
No need to toss the knot too deep in a Synthetic.
There is no gain, isn't a Badger.

If you keep a 24mm knot @ 50mm then it won't splay ! so the ideal loft for a 24mm loft would be 54-56mm for synthetics.

The knot will splay even at 48mm loft (Simpson Chubby 2 Syn) you just have to push harder. The Simpson Chubby 2 at 54mm splays easily. Between 50mm and 55mm is a good range. The height you prefer can only be determined by experimentation.

Good luck.
