Thanks to Celestino,I had the chance to try out this Simpson Duke 3 with two band badger hair.

As all the Simpson brushes, this is well made and finish and has a extra hair packed on its knot, something that many of us really appreciate.

However this is a big brush for me,even with the two band badger hair, which doesnt have a bloom or splays like 3 band badger.

As I said, this is an excellent shaving brush, with a extra firm backbone and super soft tips, something that amazed me,since I was expecting some scratchiness out of it,but no,no scratchiness at all.

Also has a bulb shaped, something that many people like in this kind of shaving brushes.

I have been testing this shaving brush with both hard soaps and creams, and its a lather maker and a killer soap.Makes lather effortlessly and its not a lather hog at all.

It reminds me of the Morris and Forndran brushes I have tried in the past, with extra firm backbone and soft tips, what many face latherers looks on a shaving brush.

As I said, this is a well made and finish shaving brush with extra quality badger hair and a good brush for face lathering. However,I thin Im looking for less backbone these days a extra flow.Taste changes with age,I guess.

Less backbone + extra flow-trough = Simfix Grosvenor 2-band
You should haven't sold your Grosvenor, Teiste... Biggrin

Just kidding. Smile Nice review of a nice brush! Cool

Great review Teiste. I have the Duke 3 Manchurian. It displays all the characteristics you mentioned, but has better flow through and greater bloom than the 2 band.

Teiste mentions the 2 band was incredibly soft and scrtitchless.. While the Manchurian hair is very unique and exceptional hair, this is the first I ever heard anyone suggest the Manchurian has those specific characteristics of being very soft, or scritchLESS.. For the record, is that what your saying?

Respectfully having owned a Duke 3 2-band for a number of years that brush (if those pictures are current) clearly hasn't broken in yet, when the knot had bloomed the flow through will greatly improve.

The Duke 3 Manchurian has softened with use. The tips are soft and the only sensation comes from the strength of the individual hairs. The backbone provides some scritch, but the tips themselves are soft. They had some scrub to begin with but has disappeared with use. It blooms more than the 2 band, but not as much as the 3. In short there is some scrub, but not from the tips as they are soft (after some use).
