New Member from Northern California. 43 yo and have been wet shaving for 5 years but just switched to a DE 3 months ago. Prior I was just using cartridges.

Started with just a VDH brush and soap which I preferred to canned cream. I still have the brush and keep it out though I haven't used it but once in the last 3 months.

My current outfit is: A Parker Best Badger Brush with a Parker 96R. Wife suprised me after she saw me start with a '72 Gillette Superspeed I picked up for $12 off ebay and upgraded my rig for my bday 2 weeks in. I rotate in the Super Speed on occassion. I am still working through my sampler pack, but for the time being my top 3 blades are Red Personnas, SuperMax Platinums and Astra Platinums with the Personna holding a small advantage. I have burned through a Dorco, Baili, Derby, SuperMax Ultra. I have some Sharp Edges, Kais, Feathers and Bics still to get to.

Pre-shave: Axe Foaming Face Wash applied in shower
Soap: VDH Luxury
AfterShave: AquaVelva
Balm: Axe Shield Lotion

I didn't look hard for my stuff, I wanted things effective and inexpensive and easily available. The Axe Stuff I picked up at a .99 Cent Store. The AV and VDH from Wally World. I was able to make a ghetto scuttle from a soup mug and a stainless steel dog bowl that looks like the were made to fit together. I paid $5 for the pair. I like the custom thrown stuff and may get around to that. The wife has been making her own soaps recently and I think I may find soap DIY aftershave and soap in my stocking in a few weeks.

{edit} I have 3 kids so while I appreciate the finers things I don't have $1200 to blow on a "brush of the day" collection. Enough about me....

Greetings and welcome from Sacramento area. There are a lot of great shave cream/soaps that are reasonably priced so enjoy shave experience.

I used to live and work in Rancho before I met the old lady. Most of my close friends are up that way. What part of town you in?
