Does anyone know what type of material the ikon DLC slant head is made of? Can it be replated? Huh

By pure conjecture, I assume it is made from sintered stainless steal. I don't know much about the DLC process, but if you're talking about traditional electroplating with nickel, gold, etc, stainless will not take on those finishes, even if the DLC were ground off. The DLC coating itself I think is pretty resilient, although it sounds like you may have got a chip in yours.

I don't like the DLC coating. It drags & skips while shaving just like my #102. I really like both razors just not the coatings. The #102 is aluminum so I don't have a choice with it but If the DLC is made of stainless that would be great, I would just need to figure out how to remove the coating.

Why don't you just sell the DLC and get a non-DLC Ikon?
I wouldn't advise going through the process of stripping the DLC coating as it may entail too much trouble and possible damage.
You could contact Greg to see what you could do to go about this if you really want to try it.
Best of luck.

I'd have to agree. I think the only way to get DLC off is to grind it off, and I can't imagine a world where that would go well...

I'm with you on buying an uncoated ikon slant. I'm having a hard time locating one at a decent price since they're not made at this time. I may post a WTB in the b/s/t forum if I can't find one.

This would be the most logical course of action as I wouldn't want to see what the DLC razor would look like after the grinding!
Imagine that, most folks are putting a DLC coating on their razors and you want to take it off! Biggrin

Good luck in finding one and with the sale of the other.
