This is a pretty random question, but anyone know where to purchase faux tortoise turning stock? Also, I have noticed that the stock that Lee Sabini uses for his M&F brushes is unique and in my opinion superior to other imitation tortoise materials I have seen. Anyone know where he sources these?

Thanks for any info

The material that Lee uses it's probably sourced from the UK. There's multiple turning sites with faux tortoise stock that can be find with a Google search.

Darn it. The one place I found it's out of stock and they only stock 20 and 25mm. Too small.

After being a jerk and stating to use Google, I tried myself and came up empty handed. I received the best results when I used 'alternate' instead of 'faux'. I'll keep looking!

I read in a thread somewhere that Lee sources this rod stock from Italy (The Chief thread, IIRC).

The stock used for the Group Buy Chief was sourced from Italy. Workpieces were cut from sheets, not rod. GPS (UK) and Masecraft (USA) have very nice faux tortoise polyester stock, which might also be manufactured in Italy (I'm not sure about that), but it's not the same.

I'm pretty sure that's not the same thing. Looks more like the the GPS and Masecraft stock to me. It has streaks whereas the material Lee used in the Group Buy brushes had more of a flecked appearance, similar to the sunglasses shown here, which I believe are probably made of acetate.

Thanks Chief. Yes, flecks. Really beautiful stuff. The M&F XL brushes in tortoise always seem to get lapped up pretty quickly on the BST.

Most likely Mr. Sabini will not be inclined to share any of his precious resin, but I'll drop him a line anyway.

I actually misplaced his email, can someone please PM me? Thanks
