I'm a sucker for Downton Abbey but this had me laughing out loud.

Quick question: several years past there was a short series that duplicated an English manor house. The head butler was the real deal. I recall him shaving the nervous 'laird' with a straight. Can anyone recall the series?

If I recall correctly the series was called "Manor House". It was a reality show that did a much better job of portraying the "downstairs" life in service than the enlightened Downton Abbey aristocrats.

There was also a reality program called the "1900 House" which showed the real life Royal Army Major having to learn how to learn to shave with a straight razor. He knew nothing and ended up in a bloody mess. The producers of the show sent him to Trumpers for some quick instruction.

Thankyou! I'm surprised it hasn't been rebroadcast with the popularity of Downton.
