I thought I was all good with my set-up, so much so I've self-imposed a sabbatical for 2015. Well then a friend lent me three razors:
  • Rocket HD
  • Red Tip
  • Eclipse Red Ring
Enjoyed the first two earlier this week and then this morning used the Eclipse. Oh boy what a shave! So smooth and yet so efficient. I suppose some faces and some razors just fit - and I think this might just be it! Certainly one of my all time best shaves! (for those curious SOTD consisted of Omega 31025 'Scarlatti', Jabonman Oriental Breeze, Eclipse Red Ring, Polsilver, Captain's Choice Bay Rum)

I've always liked the aesthetics of the Eclipse Red Ring and put it out of my mind as the stuff of SOTD porn, but now that I have used one, I need one. So I will keep my eyes peeled. However, I read this excellent article on here about the Red Ring and most posters noted that it didn't provide the best shave and yet I found it on par with my go-to razor - the Weber PH - but far better than other razors I've used in the past including:
  • EJ89
  • NEW LC
  • Slim
  • Fatboy
  • Super
  • Fatip
  • R41
  • Rocket HD
  • Red Tip

So what am I missing? Which razor shaves like the Red Ring? Be keen to approximate the Red Ring until I can actually find one of my own.

Think you should look into single-edge razors if you want a better shave.

My Mongoose with a Feather Pro gives me a closer, more comfortable shave than any of the Double Edge I have tried/ still own (many of which are on your list).

Great to hear you enjoyed the Eclipse. Personally, I never enjoyed it as I just found it a tad too mild.
I hope you can acquire one, soon! Smile

@david1201 - you're not the first to suggest an SE - I have a bunch of folks elsewhere who are unashamed devotees. I will try one, one day....oh boy that sounds like famous last words.

Thanks for the best wishes Celestino. Mate can I ask which razor you prefer? I ask as I usually prefer a more aggressive razor - but what got me about the Red Ring was just how efficient it was while remaining so easy to shave with. Stressless BBS is most areas without a hint of irritation. I can shave closer with the likes of the Weber, NEW, Fatip or R41 but not with that level of ease. Makes me think the Red Ring would make an ideal daily (work week) razor for me.

I use a Weber DLC as my primary shaver. Not quite as aggressive as the Weber PH, but, oh, so much smoother! Biggrin
Well, if you can find an Eclipse, then go for it, but they are extremely difficult and expensive to come by. Good luck, again.
Also, you may want to consider the Ikon Shavecraft 102 Slant. I have found this to be a very efficient shaver and relatively smooth and so much so that I have added it as my second shaver even though it took me over 100 shavers to find another. Blush
