I use a product called Tend Skin and it works well for me regarding bumps and irritation after my shave. On rough shaves I would use it for a day or two after and results are very good (for me).

I have typically gone through with a needle to "unearth" the ingrowns every couple of days.  Not fun.

cyanidemetal mentioned a product that you rub over your face in his post here: http://shavenook.com/thread-best-trick-f...#pid486410

I have the exact same problem as you.  I think I might pick up one of those pads to give them a try.

That's an interesting tip, I'm going to have to try it. I have been using a combination of home made Tend Skin, Stridex pads and shaving only 3x/week. This routine has been working great so far

Thread bump!

What exfoliating products are you using to battle with ingrown hairs?

I don't use any exfoliate product, I just use a good brush with regular soap to clean the face 10 hours after shaving, and it helps a lot to me.

I use plain old granulated sugar to exfoliate with. I wet my face with warm water, put about a tlbs of sugar in my palm and gently scrub my whole face  with extra attention to my beard area.  Dirt cheap and works very very well.

Baxter of California makes a terrific exfoliating soap bar.

I’m just the opposite. A really good moisturizer post shave works best for me. Have not had an ingrown in 30+ years. My old man and his dad was right. They used to use Ponds unscented hand creme because there were no moisturizers marketed towards men back in the day. I used to laugh when I saw them use it

Most of us have a scritchy cheap brush ( maybe your cheapest Boar that you never use. )
And we also have a tin of shave soap we don't like.

Soooo...before you go to bed, instead of just washing your face, just lather up with the brush/soap.

Instant exfoliation! Plus you are feeding your skin with the ingredients of the soap

Easy Peasy , and no extra cost! ( maybe you'll finally break in the Boar brush and also improve your lathering technique)

Interesting idea.

Personally, I figure I’m exfoliating every time I shave. Right?
