I have a new injector and a pack of Schicks from China. I understand there are cheaper ones from Personna but they're often sold in bulk. Anyone have a half-used cartridge with a few left I can try? I'll pay for it. I'm looking for something that's a bit cheaper than the Schicks that work decently. The vintage ones seem too pricey to be worth it to me.

You need to have a MOD move this request to the BST section under "wanted to buy"

None to send you but I use the grey market Personnas (no label) that I buy at the BX/PX aka AFEES on military bases. They usually run between 3 and 4 bucks every day with 11 blades in the injector. With a deal like I never have to buy the Schicks.

The ones I saw online asked for about $12-$13 including shipping which would place them the same as the Schicks. If I knew that I liked them, I wouldn't mind buying the big boxes of 120 for about $45.

Hiya,

There's maybe 5-6 modern blades I've used with a few being somewhat better than the others. Nothing really that stands out as wonderful. If I wanted a good shave some of these would be fine.

Now if I wanted a great shave I would look elsewhere at vintage blades. There are some that are pretty darn sharp if you like that sorta thing. They may also be somewhat forgiving but not always.

Just like DE razors, you need to try a bunch of injector blades if you want the best experience. Some vintage blades are very reasonable if you're patient.

Martin

These are the only vintage injector blades I have bought and used, and love them 100%.

The 74's and Schick Plus Platinums were by far the best of the vintage blades, no question.

How about Ted Pella blades? They're supposed to be for dissection tools, but a lot of people use them for shaving (including my wife). I haven't tried them yet... Too busy trying out different DE blades at the moment.

I want to say that the shipping was a tad pricey on the Ted Pella blades, but not astronomical.

Pella's are on par with the Chinese Schicks -- in other words, about as good as modern blades seem to get -- but their plastic housing makes the blades more susceptible to jamming. Still far behind vintage in smoothness and sharpness. If you can find the Personna 74 and especially the Schick Plus Platinum NOS blades on eBay and don't mind paying the price, it's worth it to find out how well injector blades can really perform.

Waiting on these to come in on Tuesday. Schick Injector Blades with durable chromium, helps prevent razor bumps - 7 EA. Bought on eBay for $7.95 with free shipping.

Just bought my first Schick Injector razor. Learned to shave with a Gillette DE, bought a Gillette Trac II in 1974 and used it for for 35+ years. When the cartridges got too expensive I switched to Gillette DE's for about 6 months then moved on to using straight razors for the past 6 years. Thought I might give an injector a try just for the heck of it.

I've got one that was thrown in with the Super Speed I got that started this whole wet shaving odyssey. I think my winning bid for both was $.99. I will have to try it at some point for sure.

I like the Chinese Schicks just fine... also the modern stainless steel blades by Personna, etc.  Please let us know which vintage blades you guys are referring to, because the vintage blades I've tried are dull carbon steel (except the obvious exceptions like Personna 74s and Schick Plus Platinum).  Are there other good vintage ones?

The vintage Schicks I've tried, they worked, but I wasnt overly impressed. Since then I havent really sought any out and havent bought any more. So I have 2 choices; Use a P74 and forget about it for 6 months, or use a grey label white case Personna, and forget about it for a month.

Thanks to the generosity of one of the members I've been able to try a vintage Plus Platinum and I do feel it is nicer and smoother than the Chicks.  But the Chicks are very close.  However, they are approximately the same price if you buy a bunch of the vintage from the Bay. I also managed to get a modern day Personna/Pella.  The loader is total garbage. It fell apart the first time I tried to load one.  So I had to put some blades into an empty vintage Schick loader that I got with a razor lot.  The blades seem perfectly acceptable, but the loading is such a pain I think I won't get any more for quite some time.  I'll just finish out the 20 in the current holder, then  I'll stick to the Chicks or reasonably priced vintages (no P74s for me at the current asking prices) afterwards.
