The Tulip is very much to my preference in terms of scale, form, symmetry and proportion. Very beautiful.

Stunning brushes. About 7 years ago I sold my Sommerset-era PJ2 in order to finance the purchase of a Rooney 2/1 Finest and I'm still kicking myself. It's not that I shouldn't have purchased the Rooney, it's that I should have kept the PJ and found the funds elsewhere; fiscal prudence does have its downside.

Beautiful brushes, Chris, congrats! The Sumerset brushes are a beauty.

Regarding 2-Band Somersets though, to my knowledge there were very few Somerset brushes labeled Best Badger that were made with actual 2-Band hair, or at least the same grade of hair used in the 2-Band Supers. Those two that you have seem to me to be a particular batch of Best Badger with a longer middle black strip, perhaps of higher quality (backbone?) then the regular Best Badger hair.
Also, from your picture, the hairs on the T4 seem thicker then the other two brushes, and the tips are definitely whiter, while the two Best seem quite similar. Perhaps others can chime in with additional info.

I have to also add that's quite the lineup of Somersets, amazing condition considering the age and has to feel wonderful! Enjoy Chris, just great shares as always.

You are absolutely right, the polo and chubby are just a little scritchy where the tulip is not.

Both polo and chubby have same backbone and same hair thickness.

I had by the past some typical best badger from this period and they had less backbone than these 2, also the middle band (the dark one) was thiner.

I suppose that if the loft would be shortest, the white part of the hairs would be in the handle and then called 2 bands

They did seem different to me, but I could've been wrong. In any case, those are some wonderful brushes, Chris, cherish them well!
