Thats not necessarily cheap, is it? Its $75 minimum. I'd say Merkur 37C, thats a lot cheaper.

I was about to say a Merkur 39C - I like the longer handle - but looking on the B/S/T may save even more money.

The Shavecraft 102 head is $50 if you already have a handle and a bit less expensive than the Merkur unless you can find a used Merkur, or a used Ikon 102.

I am hunting now too and there really aren't a lot of options right now. Merkur 37c, 39c, Ikon 102 head, Ikon 102 head/handle. I have just missed some auctions for Merkurs at the $35 but they tend to jump $40 pretty quick. B/S/T goes super fast too. I am being patient though. Kind of Biggrin

The challenge is that people don't want to give up their slants... they are that good Biggrin

A Lutz. On eBay every week. From a large cache of NOS. Best slant head out there, IMO. Usually in the 40's.

I see Hoffritz on the bay all the time. Lutz occasionally. The prices end up being the same or more than a new 37c. Which would be the better ootion?

The majority of the Hoffritz and Lutz offered for sale usually are in excess of $80 or more if I am not mistaken, unless they are in very bad condition.

You won't really know which one will work best for you until you try them, unfortunately.
Good luck.

My thoughts as well, which is why I think I am going with a merkur to start. There really isn't a cheaper option right now.

The modern Merkur will be an ideal place to start. They're relatively ubiquitous and come up on the BSTs pretty regularly in the 30ish price range.

Slants are a love/hate proposition. Some guys swear by them and others swear at them, but one thing is for certain, if you discover that you love the effectiveness of a slant razor, just one razor won't satisfy you... you'll always be curious as to how the other slants will perform for you.

Vintage Merkur Chessman slants, bakelite slants, Lutz, Mulcato/102 Shavecraft, ATT slants, iKon slants, Hoffritz.... it's a fantastic journey of discovery, but (alas) certainly not a cheap one.

I've been using slant razors for many years now. I occasionally use a straight-cut DE razor, but am quickly reminded why I enjoy the slants instead.

the merkur is probably as cheap as you will get for a decent razor. i love slants myself and the merkur does shave very well. also the 102 while it is a "slant" imo is not really a slant to me. some will disagree but the 102 is more of a head that is tilted. its not like the merkur or the regular ikon slant. i had the 102 and it shaved well but for me the regular ikon slant is MUCH better. the merkur was my first slant and probably the best bang for the buck if you want to try one out. also as said the lutz is great as well.
