I just picked up a Fatip from Obie on the BST. It's a great razor with a good balance, but the small handle provides some challenges. I was going to pick up a BRW after his move, but we know how that story ends. The only other two I know of are the Tradere and the iKon bulldog.

I really like the look of the Tradere handle and may end up with one if there aren't any other choices, but it is a little longer and heavier than I wanted.

I've had 3 ikon razors with bulldog handles. I have always liked the handles, but didn't feel the quality control on the razor heads was where it should be for the price being charged. I have voiced my opinions in the past. Even with 100% positive feedback over the last 12 years on ebay, Greg decided to block me from purchasing from him. I tried to purchase a razor handle from him and could not do it. This morning I logged into my work account and was easily able to add a handle to the cart proving to me that it was done on purpose.

All that being said, does anyone have a suggestion for a mid sized (~3") handle that would work with the Fatip head?

Regards,

Dale

there is a new on in the vendor section on B&B. no prices yet, but they look very nice.

with the loss of Bob at BRW, those handles and customs will be harder and harder to come by. he was the only one i know of that would make it custom to exactly what you wanted (lenght, knurling etc).

as for the iKon issue...i won't get in to it, but you seem to have it already figured out Cool

Thanks Bruce. I will check out the offerings of the new vendor on B&B.

Hi Dale

Would the Weber Stainless Steel Bulldog Handle meet your requirements?

Quote:Knurled 3 inch handle for excellent grip. Fits most vintage Gillette and modern (Merkur, Jagger, etc) 3-piece heads

Take care, Mike

Thanks Mike.

Elite Razor is a vendor on TSN and will make a custom handle. Has a good reputation.

ah yes, i forgot about the WEBER. i have not seen one in person, but it looks quite nice based on pics.

i've seen a few Tradere handles up for sale, and the one i saw in person was pretty looking, but the knurling was not as deep as i would have liked or have seen on others (ikon, BRW, Feather)

Are you guys sure that standard threaded handles (metric and imperial) fit the Fatip heads?

I just fitted my Star handle onto a Fatip head and it worked perfectly. It should work with a bulldog Weber or Tradere handle as well. The standard and metric threads are very close in size.

I guess I just didn't push hard enough or had the wrong Fatip Head. I never could get it to work with either my Tradere or Weber handle.

Gentlemen,
For your information, the FaTip Grande chrome shave head fits nicely on the Muhle "Stylo" handle. I have the "Stylo" butterscotch set and will be using the FaTip shave head on it from time to time.

I,m using a BRW handle on the Joris and Fatip but this one was made to fit the Gillette heads which are slightly smaller than the new 5mm...any handle that fits a Gillette should work...sometime the first few turns are slightly loose but as you get to the top they work fineIdea

For the record, mine was 2005 Muhle Fatip head and I couldn't fit another standard handle on it.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I ordered a Weber razor handle today. If Tradere decides to make a slightly shorter version of their handle I would definitely pick one up. The current version is just too long for my tastes.

I was able to screw my Fatip head on my BRW handle without any issue. The Old Type head did not want to thread on to the Fatip Piccolo handle.

An American head is typically 10-32 threads. A Muhle will not fit correctly on a 10-32 handle.

However, by re-tapping a 10-32 handle to a metric size M5 x .8, it will fit BOTH American and European heads.

The M5 metric tap can be bought at Sears and many auto parts stores for a few bucks.

I've re-tapped. A Durham Duplex, a BRW and a Weber all to metric threads. I can use any of them on Gillette heads and Muhle heads interchangeably.

Hope this helps.
