Just want to say hello to everyone here at TSN. I live in Ames Iowa, and own and operate (with my wife), The GROOM ROOM... a modern barbershop and salon for men. I have been wet shaving with DE's, straights, and SE's for a number of years now. And yes, we offer Hot Towel Luxury Shaves at The GROOM ROOM.

Very glad to be a part of the discussions here on The Shave Nook. I have quite a few DE, SE, and straights that I use for my daily shave rotations (both new and vintage). Way too many soaps, creams, brushes, aftershaves, etc... (after all, it's all research and development, right?).

Anyway, glad to be a part of the goings-on here.

Troy, welcome to The Shave Nook. I pass through Ames, Iowa every year on my way to Texas. Maybe I should schedule time for a good shave while on the road.

Jump on in, the water's fine! I have ridden my bicycle through Ames, Iowa as part of RAGBRAI. That was many moons ago. Cool

Welcome to The Shave Nook! It's sounds like you'll fit right in and are already well advanced in your various ADs, so you won't catch anything from us. Biggrin

Just curious, I don't think you'll mind me asking. When your shop does a shave what does the barber use as the tool?

Welcome to the Shave Nook, Troy. It is nice to have someone who knows more about shaving than we do.

Good question! Iowa barber laws require us to use a 'shavette' style straight razor, which accepts a disposable blade. The razor I use is an all stainless steel Dovo Shavette, and Feather blades.

Thanks to everyone for all the welcome comments.

I'm a newbie here too. WELCOME! I look forward to getting advice from you.

I'm gonna have to look into the cost of a plane ticket to Iowa. I'd love to go to a genuine barbershop again. Wink

Neat!

It's been years since I got shaved with a str8 of any sort.

If I lived in the area I'd stop in.
