We've got a new blog post up:

http://www.shannonssoaps.com/blog/diy-re...rade-razor

It chronicles my efforts to replate my "user grade" Gillette New long comb.  It went surprisingly well.  There are Facebook and Twitter sharing buttons right on the post, so if you like it, please share it and let us know what you think in the comments.

Here's a sneak peek at the "before":

I think you did a great job from the pics I saw.  Thumbsup

I contemplated buying a plating kit similar to the one you used myself but was unsure how well it would work.

Thanks!  I was surprised myself.  It was fairly easy, and it's held up well.  The key was surface preparation.  No grease... No soap residue.  Everything turned out great.

Thanks!  One of my Super Speeds has some brassing on the handle, so it may be next!

Thanks, guys.  An unfortunate side effect is that I keep catching myself looking around the house for other things to plate.  I mean, what wouldn't look better in polished nickel?

Looks awesome!

If you ever decide to do this as a service, let me know - would love to have three of my user grade de razors re-plated!

Please do - I would love to send one at a time with no time duration for completion and a advance payment. If you want to try one out - use me - very easy going and even if it was ruined I would pay you for your time/ effort! Would be fun to see the results. I thought about buying the equipment, but, I have little space to work with so, that will have to wait.
