Well...now I have gone and done it. After purchasing an older model Cobra on the BST last week, I decided to take my later model Cobra in for a Cerakoting. This razor was not exactly in the best shape. The finish was pretty bad, the toggle was loose...all the standard problems of a late model Cobra. So I figured what did I have to lose.

The plating needed to first be sandblasted off the Cobra. This was pretty unsettling as within a few hours I got a call from the gunsmith that there was a problem. It seems that due to poor manufacturing, the plating was actually helping hold the screws in place on the head. (See picture). Good news is that this didn't really matter much after a little thread adhesive and the Cerakote was applied.

Luckily, there were no other issues. I just picked up the razor this morning and here is the result. The toggle seems to be tighter and not as shaky. The coating turned out perfect. Overall, I am extremely excited to add this razor back into my rotation (especially since it is now rust/corrosion resistant)

What a ride in finding out the plating is held pieces together! Glad it all worked out at the end as the finished visual appearance of that is amazing!! Well done, that's one extra manly razor now!

Beautiful coating.  I'm getting my Gillette black beauty handle replated in cerakote.

I imagine the cobra razors get their holes drilled/tapped after the plating is applied.  That would explain why the threads were part of the plating.

I used graphite black. It is a little darker than armors black.
