Hi all, I'm looking to try a Fougere soap and all of the possible options are making my head spin. What would you guys recommend? I know MdC Fougere gets a lot of praise but I'm not looking to spend $65 on a single jar. Thanks.

Saponificio Varese Felce Aromatica. Nice scent, nice performance; but do double check my spelling.

LASSC Topanga Fougere
Barrister & Mann Lavanille (while not technically labelled a Fougere it is in the same genre and a lovely scent).
Penhaligon's English Fern

If you decide that Fougere is for you, then splurge on the MdC Fougere.

Another vote for LA Shaving Soap company's Topanga Fougere.  This is a gorgeous scent.

I will step out of the box here a bit and suggest something some would think unorthodox. Try the QCV from Catie's Bubbles. I realize it doesnt come with the "Fougere" label but when I use it, my mind's eye classifies it as a fougere. I have used samples of both types of B&M fougere, and have the QCS fougere. While I never actually used the QCS version, I found them all to be overly  perfumed....or at least based on a perfume scent. While the performance of the B&M was of course outstanding and I have no reason the question the performance of the QCS, I just found them to be too strongly scented for my personal use. I fully support those that enjoy these versions, they just werent for me.

The QCV on the other hand has the floral/green/fern type scent my imagination expected. I would recommend it highly.

I prefer the QCS cream. I recommend it over the hard soap, it is not a soft cream but a croap. Great scent plus great performance.

Sorry but if you like Fougére's, YOU SIMPLY HAVE TO GET THE MDC !!

I know it's not cheap. But I own 3 200 ml backup jars for a good reason !!!

About the durability of MdC, well... I conducted an experience a few years back, at another forum. Blush

You can find that old thread here.

Of course there's always YMMV, but for me, MdC is definitely worth it.

I recently received B&M Fougere Imperial, and it's a great soap. It's hard to come by, but if you find some it's definitely worth it.

I in the mail just today found my Cold River Soap Works Fougere Modern. What a beautiful scent for me to smell! Early for me to say so with promise but I find my most favorite scent of all. I have the after shave splash to match. Now to buy the after shave balm to complete my collection.

You must try this if a lover of Fougere like I am so much!

Wow! Thanks for all of suggestions guys. I actually found a good deal on Saponificio Varesino Felce Aromatica on another forum, so that will be my first fougere. I will report back with my take on the scent and performance.

Saponificio Varesino Felce is a good fougere scent but it is on the strong side. The MdC in my opinion is scented just enough and the performance is worth the hype
