I decided a long time ago that I would only use a DE blade four times. I don't seem to notice much degradation up to four shaves. But life is too short (and blades are too cheap) to use a blade that won't give me a good shave. Doesn't matter which brand, four times is it. I mark with a Sharpie each time I use it and dispose of it after the fourth shave even if maybe I could have gotten another shave or two out of it. It's not worth messing with.

The SE blades for Cobra/Mongoose/etc. definitely last longer. I used a Feather Pro today in my Mongoose for the eighth time, and I could tell it is definitely not as sharp and my shave was not as good. So out it will go. But, I've read where some people have used them for 15-20 shaves!

So, my question is...how many shaves do you get per DE blade, and how many per Feather Pro/Kai SE blade (for Cobra or Mongoose)?

As I also shave my head, I generally use the DE blade for 4 shaves before replacing.

I change DE blades every week, so three or four shaves depending on working weekends or not. Life is simply to short to use a duller blade  Tongue

SE blades (GEMs) on the other hand gets used for three weeks - they simply stay better longer for me.

One of the requirements of any blade that made it through my DE blade testing was that it had to last for 7 shaves*, and they do. So for me, 7 shaves per DE blade. I might be able to get more, and I've tested that, but it's just not worth it. Shaving with a dull DE blade is just asking for trouble. Every once in a while a blade gets canned sooner, but that's quite rare.

SE blades are a different story. I've gotten over 30 good shaves out of one and always get over 20. The shave characteristics changes over that time, but it's not uncomfortable in any way. When I no longer get a BBS in my standard shave (2 1/3 passes) that's it for the blade.

Can't help with the other blades.

* I tested well over 30 blades over a 1 1/2 year time span; few made the cut. They had to be sharp and smooth and last for 7 shaves. After testing those blades I was burnt out; I'd had more than  enough blade testing and just wanted a decent shave without wondering how that days shave would be.

DE blades have typically been 3-4 shaves.
SE blades (Feather Pro)= maximum was 6-7.

Generally speaking, depending on the individual blade loaded in the razor, I can get up to 6 shaves from my top 3 preferred (Crystal, Med Prep, GSB) blades if  I do only two passes with no touch-ups per shave. When I do 3 passes or more, on more than 1 or 2 shaves, I'll change the blade after 3 shaves. I also find that my blades last longer when used in my Merkur. When used in my Techs or Slim Adjustable Black Beauty, for some reason, they don't seem to have the same longevity.

The Super Max Titanium gave me 7 incredible shaves. This is the most for anything that I've used so far. Honestly, i could have went probably two or three more times, but i personally wanted to stop right there.

I agree with the OP - four good shaves from a blade. Can easily go five or six, but usually results in a slight irritation. With the great prices of the Russian blades now, no use in not being completely comfortable!

I have substantial experience with only three brands of DE blade:  KAI, Gillette Silver Blue (GSB), and Iridium Super (Russian made, marked “Super Iridium” on the blade itself, and probably identical to Polsilver SI, but the box bears the Wizmet brand and the words “Iridium Super”).  Although the blades differ in performance, I find six shaves to be the norm for all three.  I always can get five good shaves, pretty much indistinguishable from the first to the fifth, from any of the three, and usually the sixth shave is slightly different:  satisfactory, but sending signals that a seventh shave would not be a good idea.  Sometimes, the sixth shave does not send out the signals, and I will go on to a seventh, when the signals start, or then to an eighth, when the signals start.  I have found that it is imprudent to ignore the signals, however:  therein lies a bad end.

The few times I have really pushed any of the blades beyond six shaves, the brands have behaved differently:  the Iridium Supers  and the KAIs have declined more or less linearly, a tad worse each shave from seven on.  But the GSBs fall off a cliff:  when they start to go bad they go really bad really fast.

The voskhods work well for me, but, I usually use them for 4 shaves and they're changed. My gems however, I get at least 8-10 shaves with them.

Six or seven. I experimented: if I take the blade out and pat it dry, it lasts longer. really, it does.

Well, I usually get 5-8 with mine, but I know two gents on another forum who have taken one DE blade past 100! They strop the blade on a towel while it is in the razor!  Biggrin

With my go-to blades I normally get 6-7.

With a Feather I get a maximum of 3 shaves.

With an Astra just 1-2.

Astra SP I usually just use once, trying to see if I can make them go longer but at 0.10/ea I don't feel too bad about it

I think oxidation is what kills the edge mire than anything else. I tap dry the blade on a a piece of toilet paper and i  currently in the 6th or 7th shave on a Wilkinson blade.

I go a maximum of 3 shaves on mine. I've gotten burned before trying to extend the blade one more shave and blades are so cheap that it's not worth the irritation.
