I bought a 32mm Shavemac 2-band silvertip a couple of months ago and while it's a really nice brush, it fell short of my expectations. The problem was, I think, my selection of a 64mm loft. I had expected a more solid backbone (not that this one is wimpy) and I also have to admit to being slightly overwhelmed by the diameter of the bloom.

So I ordered a 28mm x 56mm 2-band silvertip Shavemac fan from Rudy Vey and it arrived this week - and it was exactly what I had hoped for. This is a really outstanding brush, with a nice, dense knot and a solid backbone that is 100% scritch-free. I know that may describe a lot of brushes, including others in my own collection, but this knot feels just a bit different than the others. It's also very efficient - it loads quickly and releases lather more freely than you might expect from a big, dense brush.

Rudy did a great job on the L7 handle, although in hindsight, I wish I had chosen a different color for the handle.

This brush has turned me into an instant fan-boy. I liked my first one, but I love this one!

That's a real beauty. How big is the bloom?

Hmmm....I'm surprised: The difference is only 2mm - the bulb is 71mm and the fan is 69mm, but the fan feels neater and is easier to control.

Shavemac's 2 Band Silvertip is best in fan with a low loft. Typically, I would go with a 50mm loft on a 26mm knot. For the shavemac 46-47mm are more appropriate to enjoy both soft tips and backbone.
I have one in the making with Rudy...
This will be my fourth shavemac 2 Band.
Enjoy the brush!

Congratulations, Bob!
I am surprised you went with a 56mm loft for the 28mm knot as I have a Fan 28mm, temporarily, set at 52.5mm, but I may have to bring it down to 50-51mm as I want more backbone from it.
I have to concur with you and Georg in saying that this new hair offered from Shavemac is some of the best 2-Band hair I have ever tried; very good backbone with velvety soft tips; I can barley feel them!

Enjoy your new brush!  Thumbup

Thank you Georg and Celestino for the insights re: Shavemac 2-band Silvertip fan vs. bulb + loft.

The Shavemac Silvertip 2-band is fantastic. Purchased a custom RV brush and I couldn't be happier. The brush has great backbone and really soft tips.

I didn't want to over-compensate for the high loft on the first brush by making it too short and ending up with a scritchy pseudo-D01. That's why I went with the 1:2 diameter/loft ratio. Rudy told me after the fact that I could have gone with an even lower loft and still retained the best qualities of the knot. I guess that's what I will do on my next one!

I had Rudy make me a D01 2 band 32/53 several months ago.  I get hand cramps using it.  But talk about backbone...  LOL!

I just got the blue marble 24 mm 50 mm lofted 2-band Silvertip bulb. It looks and feel beautiful !!

I think this brush is a tad too soft for me to want to get a fan shaped knot in it - better knots out there for that for my preferences, I feel.

But great looking brush, Bob !

No worries, Bob and I completely understand! Enjoy the brushes!  Smile
