Does anyone have a real good product that works?  Either the oil is to thick. lite, smells etc..  I've tried Proraso, etc..  I am looking seriously at Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

Have found a winner.  I used the Crown pre shave gel and it is by far the best of the 10 + I've tried.  The one pump and the gel coats and lubricates for 3 passes.  Does not gum up my razors like oil. Leaves my face soft and hydrated.  I used it with soaps and cremes with wonderful results.  Really helps the shave quality with my DE razors and Feather DX & SS non folding straights. Washes off cleanly and didn't adversely effect my brushes.

I mainly use the Proraso pre-shave creams, but two oils that I like are Village Barber Pre-Shave Oil and Truefitt & Hill pre-shave oil.  The Village Barber is the heavier of the two.

TICO* is really excellent...can be used as a pre-shave or all on it's own, as it has perfect viscosity (YMMV). It's scent is a mild herbal/mint and very soothing with a touch of menthol. Also it's USDA organic in case that matters. Readily available online with the best prices on the bay.

I agree.  I've tried some oils and such but one (rubbing oil on my skin is not a pleasant experience and not great for my skin).  The Proraso pre-shave cream (I have the white one), has been awesome!!!!

If you don't want to make your own go for Maggard's preshave oil, it's as close to homemade as your gonna get. Most preshave oils are way overpriced IMO.

I'm interested to try SV preshave but seems too expensive to me...definitely an interesting list of oils though.

I use several. Proraso, both menthol and Sensitive skin. I also use Truefitt & Hill. It is a little thicker than I like so I use it with a little hot water. It has a citrus scent. Finally, I really like L'Occitaine Cade oil. Nice scent. Nice viscosity. Great shave. Interestingly enough, there are times I will soak with a hot towel with the oil. Then I will soak again with a hot towel and proraso. Then I shave. I know it seems like overkill. But it creates a fabulous shave.  It is also very therapeutic.

I finished the entire bottle of the Saponificio Varesino preshave oil. I LOVED IT! Once I got it, I was using it as pre shave and in between each pass. The shaves were much more comfortable.

I now have Le Pére Lucien beard/preshave oil to use now to hold me over which works well too.

when I was researching same subject Poraso Green got the most hits of any comment being widely used and liked.    If you like the smell of menthol(which is not overpowering), it is very nice addition to the routine.

I have used 3 till date,
the billy jealousy hot towel pre shave,
the aos sandalwood,
and the osma,
the billy jealousy is my favorite, even the concept is a little different, it kinda heats up when you massage it into your skin and definitely makes the shave comfortable.
