Ok so I use good creams, Xpec, ABC, MDC, Caties Bubbles you get the point.  I get good shaves but if I'm not careful I'll razor burn the blue blazes out of my neck by my Adam's apple and from there up to the bottom of my chin.  Doesn't happen often but boy when I do I pay for it for a few days..
Today thanks to Phil my order of Baume Be pre shave gel showed up... I applied this after a shower and used Caties Bubbles, Ikon DLC with med prep blade... Is it just me but WOW I noticed a difference with the pre shave..!!!!!!
Thoughts gentlemen??

pre-shave works brother. i use baby oil. it really helps with the glide of the razor, helps to soften the barbed wire on your face. hot shower really helps as well.

I use a preshave daily.  It definitely works for me and I don't mind the extra step.

I have been playing around with pre-shave for a while now and am definitely in the PRO camp. Even cheap versions like Noxema work really well and last forever.

Bruce, what do you use for a pre-shave?

I use pre-shave daily (Saponificio Varesino oil or Baume.be gel).

Admittedly I was skeptical about the benefits of this added step in the past, and am now a believer.
It makes a tangible difference for me.

Bruce, what do you use for a pre-shave?
Floid Sandolor, RazoRock Pro Gel or PreBarba.

The Pro Gel is actually marketed as a standalone latherless product but I find it works great as a preshave.

I've often contemplated making my own, but I'm too lazy. As Ravi said, I'm a believer. When I try to skip or phase it out, my face suffers.

When you say PreBarba, are you referring to the Proraso products?

No sorry. I've tried the Proraso pre/post

PreBarba is a RazoRock item. The AOS is supposes to be amazing as well, but I can't bring myself to spend that much on preshave product.

I only use on Pass 1. After that, my face sea good.

Ravi I ordered the Baume Be as well and figured if you have a good cream why would you need a pre shave but I did notice a big difference too

N'Red, you should do what you need to do to get the job done. Everyone's face is different. So no, you're not crazy if it works for you.

I haven't had any success with pre-shave products and I find face-lathering works wonders for me, instead!  Biggrin

I love pre shaves, in particular the oils. Maggards is my current favourite which oil similar to a homemade recipe and good scents I think they are a real winner. I have used others like Proraso cream and various glycerin soaps that work.

One to look out for is Mickey Lee's new pre shave butter it's really good stuff. I have the lime it smells amazing, shame they don't offer a better range of scents.

I have tried a few pre shave products but it did not do much for my shave so I don't use them anymore. That is just me and if it works for you go for it. Everyone is different.

I use pre-shave soap and I shave daily.  Makes a big difference no matter what the soap is.

Prep is half the battle, I think.  For me, that involves a good wash with a facial soap, but I don't see why a good pre-shave product couldn't do a respectable job preparing stubble and skin.

I've been using Proraso Red pre-shave for about week now and believe my shaves are smoother and closer as a result. Plus, my skin feels better all day.
