Hello Everyone,
I just started using a safety razor this weekend and happened across the Van der Hagen safety razor at Target. It's apparently and unbranded Weishi butterfly model and was only $20 with 5 blades. 5 Additional blades was $4.

I shaved three times (including my head as one shave) with the first blade.

I've already decided this razor is too light and short so I'm hunting for advice on a longer handle closed comb model similar to a Parker 99R in design. I'm looking for suggestions around $50-75 bucks, as well as online vendors you guys have great experience using.

I have a Colonel Conks soap variety pack on the way from Amazon and plan to shelve the Burt's Bees as soon as it arrives.

Here is my SOTD

Welcome to TSN.  If you like the butterfly door type razor but looking for a longer handle, be on the lookout for a Lady Gillette.  Great little razors.

As for as all types of shaving products, our own BullGoose Shaving is located in Torrance, CA and gives excellent service.

Welcome to TSN. I second what Johnny had stated, but will add that the Gillette Slim or Fatboy razors are pretty excellent, with plenty of heft! Not quite as long as the lady, but very efficient.

Thanks everyone, I'll check out the Lady Gillette online and Bullgoose next time I'm in Torrance.

Anyone have advice on a new $50-75 razor with some heft and a longer handle. Any style, comb, bar 2 piece etc.

I'll look at vintage razors after I've had more experience.

The Merkur 180 is on Amazon for $30. It's a 3 piece with a long handle. It was my first de. You can also get 100 Astra Platinum blades for $10.
