Hi everyone,
I've been browsing Merkur products online and wondering how the naming convention works.

HD = Heavy Duty
C = Chrome
larger number = longer handle?

Thanks,
Joe

You got it with HD and C/G(gold). I think the numbers are arbitrary model numbers but also can relate to length. The 38/39 being longer versions of the 34/37 but the 39 isn't longer than the 38. 39 is a slant bar and the 38 is the regular straight bar.

Here is a PDF of Merkur's catalog:

http://www.dovo.com/pdfs/MERKUR_Katalog2013.pdf

To make it even more confusing (or to fit into Dovo's larger framework of products), the Merkur product numbers don't have the "HD" or "C/G" designation.  The 34HD is actually 90 34 001.  I would assume that the last three digits refer to the handle type or finish, because all the black handled razors are 011.  All the gold razors are 003.  And it appears the satin finished razors are 002.

But as for the models themselves?  I can't figure a reason.

Amusing, considering their catalog is a PDF rather than a website I bet they've been using catalog numbers instead of names from the beginning.

I'm not a fan of that Weishi I got at Target. For the price it's okay I guess; still leaps and bounds better than my old Fusion.

Thanks all.
