Winter is close to being in the books (6 inches of snow today in Chicago). Let's share with each other what works for you to bring back your skin. Windburned face, dry skin on the body, rough hands. We all have had these symptoms one time or another, so what has worked for you?

Last spring I stopped by Merz and got a few Dr Hauschka products specifically for my face. Toner, serum, moisturizer, and boy I felt better. Changed my shave routine too, by moisturizing after applying after shave.

Looking forward to your insights

I live in Chicago too. For skin NOTHING comes close to bag balm. I use lotion on my face after the shave. Also I would avoid using drying coconut oil soaps such as MdC and CB. The Fat, Pre de Provence, and Provence Sante are best.

Bag balm? Huh, that's something I haven;t heard of in years. The "Udder" Moisturizer, right?

Bought some unrefined shea bitter last year, plus a lavender scented one. It's a very good product. I haven't been able to find the right "ratio" when I apply it so my face isn't so shiny. I'll give it another extended spin starting this week and see how I can adjust the look. The feel of shea butter and its properties are very good

I just let nature do its thing year round.  It never occurred to me to do anything else.

Something to try, if you haven't already.  I put a little shea butter in my palm, then pour a little witch hazel (regular stuff) and rub it together.  Seems to help "spread" the butter a bit better and makes me use less, so the shine isn't there as bad.  YMMV of course.

Thanks guys-I used it today with just a little bit of product. 11 hours later it's still there, not very heavy. It was a bit glossy at the start. Maybe I can cut it back with some after shave like you mentioned Brian (with the witch hazel).

My hands get unbelievably messed up in winter if I don't use something on them. I think it's the cheap soap I'm stuck using at my office. I use a balm - a blend of oils, waxes and butters. Lots of artisan soap companies make them. I don't usually have to worry about my face, but occasionally I'll use a handmade lotion for it. Again, lots of artisan soapmakers sell handmade lotions. Usually, they'll be made with oils that won't clog your pores, but have a look at the ingredients just to be sure.

Yes, I got it at Walgreens or CVS-- I forget which. My little brother has always struggled with "crocodile skin" and he's used some of the stuff recommended by the doctor aquaphor, vaseline, and various "medicated" lotions and nothing works like bag balm. Also, there was a time I worked at the drive through and I developed a cracked finger that would bleed sometimes. It lasted a year without completely healing and even through the summer. I discovered bag balm and it has been gone for good. It must be the lanolin. Haha I recognize this probably sounds like i'm a shill  Tongue

I have eczema, dermatitis, you name it. So lots of prescription products, I use diprobase creams and ointments too. I also use lot's of various cosmetic oils, although I always have a few bottles of almond oil at hand. I have tubs of shea butter, latest from Provence Santè - however, the girlfriends steals it...

I made a ix of Bees wax and mineral oil to use for hands and face.  I am getting some lanolin and tallow to play with, I hope to be able to produce a decent balm with those and some Bulgarian Rose Otto.
