Mastro Livi kamisori...

I'm seriously considering this beautiful Carbon stainless steel 6/8 Japanese style razor made by Mastro Livi.

It's a rather considerable investment, much more than I had anticipated or budgeted.

I was wondering if any of our members had any experience with Mastro Livi razors, in particular his kamisori style offerings.

Hi,

Why is there that brown colour on the blade??? Doesnt seems to be for aesthetic purposes?

Sorry...I am a complete novice!

Matt

Ben, Mastro Livi razor's are some of the best in the world. He makes the metal all himself, I know I've been there and watching him make my own razor.

The reason there's a colour difference is the Steel: Mastro Livi CarboInox (middle layer: Mastro Livi carbon damascus; outer layers: stainless steel)

Have a chat with Antonello (Razorguy) and have a look here:

I've had a few regular Livi straights - damascus steel made by him. His craftsmanship is amazing - worth the premium, in my opinion.

That is the first kamisori I have seen from Mastro Livi, it looks great.  Does it have an asymnetrical grind?  That is quite a polish he put on that blade.

I have one of his western razors and I like it-not love it.

Hello gentlemen,
I have three Mastro Livi kamisoris and they all are magnificent. My newest one - which I bought last Saturday - is absolutely amazing, beautiful to see, a superb shaver. It is made from CarboInox, the latest steel created by Mastro Livi (although, I must admit, I am proud to say I was the one who suggested this name) and it is a special San Mai in which Mastro Livi successfully combined stainless steel to carbon steel. In this case, the outer layers are made of plain stainless steel whereas the middle layer is made of Mastro Livi carbon damascus steel.

In case you need help with the language, I will be glad to assist you in communicating with Mastro Livi. By the way: he is a friend of mine and my job has nothing to do with razors, I am simply glad to help a dear friend like Mastro Livi with his many "non-italian" clients as well as passionate wet shavers to get their Mastro Livi razor.
Having said this, I do certainly wish you to come to Italy and to personally watch the making of your Mastro Livi razor. The dear friend Jody (aka @jodypress) had this experience and came to Perugia to watch the making of his beautiful and stunning straight razor: we had a great time, spent two days watching Mastro Livi at work, had a lot of straight razor talks, enjoyed fine food and wines (well, I hope it was like so to Jody) and I certainly am looking forward in meeting him again some day soon.

I have three Livi razors and love them, especially my custom Damascus. Hold their edge well and you can touch them upnquite easily.

In the US you can only order them thru SRD, which also stocks them (although they have none at present). Livi honors his deal with them, so you have to go to SRD. I'd love to take Razor Guy up on it some day and go straight to the source.
