I am currently in the process of buying a Plisson #16 HMW with a Horn Handle. The dealer has given me the choice of 2 different brushes. I am leaning toward the brush on the left. Which one should I buy?

A couple of nice choices. I have one with a knot similar to the one on the left and once owned another one with a knot similar to the one on the right. There was very little difference in how they worked. The one on the right has a more interesting handle but I do like the left one's knot a little better. Hard to go wrong but I would likely pick the one on the left. Let us know which one you pick.

Maybe its me, but if you didn't say they're both size 16, they look to be different sizes. The left handle and knot looks better overall.

The left one might be a bit closer to the camera. To me though it seems to have a higher loft and more of a fan shape.

Thinking about it now, the left is closer to the camera given its taken at an angle.. but I wouldn't think that at first glance. But your correct, the right is definitely a bulb shape while the left (If i remember correctly reading a few prior posts somewhere) you were looking for a longer/large HMW... the left is more fan shaped than bulb, lofts are too close, but the larger shape of the left may be what your looking for. But either way moving to size 16 will be longer loft than your 12.. the larger head of the left brush would give the feel it sounds like your after.

I don't see what your problem is. I only see one brush. Smile

Both brushes are modern 3-band HMW hair, the knot on the left seems to have more use (or may simply have been used more recently), and it also seems to have whiter tips. In terms of handle, the colors are also more consistent on the left brush, even though they're also a bit "blander". All things considered, I'd go for the left brush.

the left brush is closer to the camera and has more uses on it. Having bloom I think makes the tips seem a little white. The brush behind may after blooming be larger in comparison.
Bad picture for making a decision, I  d like to have the brush in the background. Somewhat more complex handle material by its looks.

What is the difference between the brush knots? I can see that the one on the right has different colours in the handle - which is what I was preferring but what is it about the knots that make them different?

The difference is only in the shape of the knots. Both are size 16, loft height is probably the same although the camera angle makes them look different. The brush on the left has a more of a fuller appearance, kind of a hybrid fan bulb shape. The right one has more of a bulb shape. Either will make a great brush.
Of the two 16's that I mentioned that I had, one had a larger handle. I almost thought it was an 18 when I received it but my calipers say it's a 16.

I must be a bit eccentric, but the one on the right has some interesting character with the darker colour at the base of the handle. Biggrin

you are putting your trust in the French.  please be careful my ancestors were crafty.  still my one favorite brush of all is my plisson 16 horn. I like the one on the left.  celestino is blinded by Canadian badger hair acquisition disorder found only in or near Vancouver.   you will love this brush

I have to agree with: " NSmalls "  : as I own a similar one to the one on the right. with shades of Green, Beige, Brown & Black.

Whichever you purchase Enjoy.

I don't know I bought a Kent BK4 at a great price from you and it's one of my favorite brushes. I trust the French it's the Parisians I fear. I rented a house for a month in Provence this month and am looking forward to exploring Luberon and Provence.
