Hi Everyone --

I just joined this web site and am looking forward to interacting with people more experienced than I in the art of wet shaving. I had shaved with bristle brush, "Old Spice" mug and Schick injector razor back in my "younger days;" but when injector blades became difficult to find in local stores I then became seduced by the cartridge razor system. I found myself retaining the blades much longer than advisable because they were so damned expensive to purchase. Then I stumbled upon web sites, such as this, which discussed (and advertised) DE razor shaving. I thought the DE razor was as extinct as the injector razor; and I became fascinated with its continued production in countries such as Germany (Merkur) and Great Britain (Edwin Jagger). I purchased on line the Merkur 38C with long handle and a Shavemac 177 with 21mm knot. I immediately fell in love with these items since, among other reasons, the razor provided a closer/smoother shave than the cartridge system with far less blood than I remembered when using the Schick injector. The brush, with its badger hair, was softer, yet more effective, than my past boar hair. I began to study in ernest all the different manufacturers and purchased several different brands of soap. I needed, of course, to purchase mugs to store the soap; and maintenance of my "shaving den" has become my new hobby. My most recent purchases have included the Shavemac "Opus Summum" and a handmade beauty from Robert Grubber (t/a Excalibur Rustics); and I am considering the purchase of a Simpson "Eagle G-3". I have also begun using a "lather bowl" -- which I had never used in my younger years -- and this has significantly increased my ability to develop a rich and creamy lather. The bowl was purhased from Symmetrical Pottery and it is fantastic! I don't want to ramble; greetings from New Jersey.
