Well, I finally found a site I can relate to with a lot of past experience. Hi, Mel here, long in the tooth at 77. Been growing facial hair for a long time. Started out with simple double edge then to single edge and had a lot of facial cuts and, in those years messy neck infections while in the military. During that time a retired Col gave me his prize razor. A nearly new Rolls Razor No2 Imperial. Only after an lot of instructions on the care and use would he let me take it home.
Now, for the rest of the story, he gave me the regiment on how to wet shave. His words, Hot steaming towel on the neck and face for enough time to make the skin flush. Lather up well and let it set for a count of 20. Then start the shave slowly like making love to your face. It takes time for the skin and facial hair to get ready for the shave, take time, it is worth it. Clean the razor in hot water after each stroke, you want the blade to have a fresh start on the next glide across. when the face is clear of lather, wipe it off clean, but not hard. Splash on a hand cup full of Listerine, yes, I know it is going to burn a little and yet soften the skin and protect it from infection later. Now, the best part, carefully look over your face and dry shave any left over misses. Carefully, because the skin is giving up the last of the lather oil and you don't want type O running around. When happy, hot towel the face off, then cold towel wipe and splash on your favorite aftershave. Then, as the Col said, and only then, are you are ready for the day..
Enjoy the ride it is the best you will ever get.
