Came across what looks to be a brand new Feather Razor that was released. Look wise, it looks absolutely stunning with the finish of the steel to the look and grain of the wood and even contour of the handle, price is another matter but I wanted to share these photos I found (262 USD based on current fx rate). Its pretty much puts this into the cost of the AS-D2 w/ Stand cost when it came out few years ago.

The shave is probably typical Feather AS where its very smooth and mild.
(but its interesting that they coded it WS-D1S .. the D1 was the first generation.. unless this is an older model or maybe they restarted the model codes (?), but I've never seen this look before)

Quote:Product Description

The Feather WS-D1S Wood Handle Stainless razor is an exceptional showcase of Japanese quality. The dark resin impregnated wood laminate is created by slowly soaking natural wood in resin. This special technique preserves the natural texture of the wood in addition to making it water resistant. The wood contrasts beautifully with the stainless steel. Included in the package is the matching signature Feather razor stand. Feather recommend using their blades for the ultimate experience. These blades are made in Seki, Japan a city which historically has produced the finest Japanese swords. The packaging is lacquered by a craftsman which creates a unique lustre and rich colour.

If there were photos that showed the underside of the razor, it'd be easy to tell which version it is.

Can't imagine they'd go back to the D1, given the problems they had.  I imagine, therefore, that this is just an AS-D2 with a wooden handle.  Love the contrast between the top cap and the baseplate.

I was seriously considering purchasing this razor so I dug out my ASD2.  I love the shaving experience, but am not satisfied with the results.  I just can't seem to get the BBS that I easily achieve with my preferred medium-moderately aggressive razors.  Fortunately I have plenty of those on hand so I'm not left wanting.  The aesthetics of this razor are still calling to me...

I'm not a fan of this one. Don't like the thought of a wood handle and don't care for the two tone head.

To me, it looks like a cheap razor trying to compete with high end stainless and the price is way to high.

When I stumbled across this this weekend it was on preorder status and when I went in to grab the pictures it switched to what looks like available to order, so I would assume this is a new model. It would seem that they rebooted the model numbers... Regarding availability it maybe only just making its way to market as I remember almost no one in the US had the AS-D2S and I got mine from UK many months before anyone had it with the stand.

According to the literature on Shaving.ie's site its wood soaked in resin. I would want to believe that this would need to be a bit more robust than typical incorporated wood pieces as I see them as one of closer mass market DE's out there. But that's just what I've observed based on how many main stream vendors seem to carry Feather

Ooooh my now that's a finely made razor!! May need to upgrade my D2 Tongue

How is the packaging? It says it's lacquered, is it as intricate as the D2?

Looks awesome! Is there any difference in head shaving performance against D2?

celar36,

Very nice. If I'm not mistaken, the wood series of Feather is associated with their limited runs or editions. It would be interesting to learn whether their resin impregnation process was accomplished under pressure, making the wood even more durable and protected.
