Anyone out there a minimalist when it comes to shaving supplies? If so, what are you using? As for me.

Standard Razors (black)
TGC synthetic/Parker badger
Proraso Sandalwood cream
Speick soap
Speick aftershave

I'm just starting out of course but I aim at keeping my shaves simple.

I was minimalist for my first about 6-8 months.  Then I started "testing" other soaps, and now I am far from it.

I told myself if I'm unable to get decent shaves with what I start with then I'll toss in the towel and go back to my Braun shaver. So far the shaves have been okay and I can only assume they will get better. I will try out different blades of course and see if I can find one that best suits me.

I think I fall closer to the minimalist end of the spectrum than an AD sufferer, but I like variety, too.  I can imagine I'll acquire a few more brushes and razors, but I can see myself going slightly overboard on soaps and aftershaves.

I'm a minimalist when it comes to razors.  I had a lot of DE's and straights.  On DE's, I decided I like the Weber PH Bulldog best and sold all my other DE's.  On straights, I decided I like the Hart Steel 7/8" best and sold all my other straights.  However, I have been unable to become a minimalist when it comes to brushes.

I am a minimalist when it comes to soaps, and, somewhat regarding DE razors. I use one soap, 99% of the time and 2-3 DE razors. However, I struggle with brush ADs! They are my weakness due to my SOTD photos. Biggrin

Not minimal -- but lean (by this group's standards) and looking to rein in the soaps.

It's all about the brush in the SOTD photos right! It's the first thing I see when I look at them.

I would say I'm minimalist so far... 2 safety razors, one at home and a travel one. Same goes for my brushes... I Keep some brands of blades on hand, and I choose accordingly to the shave I need that day. Only for the soaps and after shaves, I like to play around depending on my mood. Lately I'm using L'occitane Cade, Pre de Provence No. 63, and various Maggard. I looking to add a slant in the rotation. Other than that, I want to keep it simple.

A TRUE minimalist would have; ONE razor, ONE brush, One brand of blades, ONE soap and a hair shirt.

Agreed! I guess we have various degrees of "salad bar" minimalists around here. I certainly can't raise my hand, I am currently rearranging my 12 brushes, 5 razors and 14 tubs of cream.  A6

After and AD phase, and some due purging, i'm trying to go minimalist. For some time now i only use 2 razors, and 2 brushes, 2 or 3 blades i really like, and although i have several soaps and creams, i'm starting to go to the same ones over and over (Haslinger soaps and Cella). I really like them  Wink

So at least for now, and after the usual ADs and all, i found a nice balance, and that a slimmer den some times is quite nice.  Cool

No addiction what so ever. But i love collections, and every other month, I'll purchase a few finds that are not being produced.

2 soaps. 2 aftershaves. 1 brush. Perhaps 6 or 7 DE, but it's all been about finding the one that really fits my comfort, use, and so on.

Ikon 102
1938 tech USA
1932 patent canada tech
Dorco plastic (same as wilkinson)
Standard (like this a lot)
Maggard Mr8 (bought for the handle)
A very old open comb (buyer remorse)
Gillette OLD (1917-ish, buyers remorse)

Thing I wish I had kept? Razorock baby smooth. Bought, resold for a decent price, it was about as good as the Standard. I sold it when it felt like the handle or head threads were too soft and wanted to cross thread. If I had it now and it did that, I'd just repair it.

I think my small set if I reduced would be to keep the standard, the canada tech, and the plastic dorco.

My blade? A feather or an Astra.

I have been pondering our drought in California with some fatalism. There is a fascinating complex in the southwest called the Chaco Canyon. A pre Columbian people developed a magnificent irrigation system, pushed their population just beyond sustainability and were hit by a drought. These became the so called cliff dwelling Anasazi with their flute playing rain deity Kokopelli now gracing endless windchimes.
One of my means of 'support' is dumpster diving. I make a humble income reselling 'another man's junk' along with recyclables. Ton Jones and Allan Haff even approached me to do a spinoff of
AUCTION HUNTERS. My greatest dismay are the countless plastic water bottles, often not even half consumed with water. NO, I'm not shaving with it, recycling the @ 1 GALLON a day recovered to water my patio vegetable garden and ornamentals.
Minimalism in water use may impact shaving eventually. Perhaps the many scuttle makers may market those present white elephant bowl, pitcher and rinse bowl monstrosities. After taking sea showers for 40 years I just can't wait.
