I managed to pick up this bowl of Yardley for practically a song and a dance. Don't know anything about it, age, ingredients. It still has YARDLEY embossed on the soap. I gave it one test lather and man was I impressed. Can anyone tell me approx. age? whether it's a tallow or vegan base? There's a faint scent left and my experience with vintage soaps is that that gets stronger the deeper you go, but is it lavender?

Looking at old ads my guess is its from the 60's.
The label and logo seem to match the aftershave bottle ad's from the 60's. Soap bowls from the 50's had a dark green label. But that's just a guess.

To my nose, the ones on the top row are the same scent… the "Yardley Original (with 1Y)", the English Lavender (black and green label), and "Yardley (with 1Y)… the black and green one has the most scent but I'm sure that's because it was still in the wrapper when I bought it… and not due to the scent at manufacturing… the other two on the top row are pretty muted scent to be honest, but I am pretty sure that they were originally all the "English Lavender" scent (if those 2 weren't so faded in scent I would be more confident).
The bottom row are all the same scent (with varying degrees of spiciness)… "Yardley Original (with 3Ys), the black triangle "YYY Yardley Black Label" and the tortoise triangle (fancy Y)…. these smell like the aftershave on the left.
The lather of all Yardley soaps is monstrous, silky and gives wonderful in-shave and post-shave skin care. Absolute winner.

EDIT: I should have also stated that all 3 on the bottom row have much more scent than any on the top row, though you might have already assumed that from what I did write.

I'm finding that to be so very true.
