Having a cache of a discontinued product can cause a bit of a dilemma. Do you ration the product so you can enjoy it occasionally for years to come or do you use it freely to enjoy it as much as you can while it lasts? I have been rationing my Super Iridium blades and Yardley soap but have been questioning this strategy. After all, what if I drop dead tomorrow? As they say, you can't take it with you.

What is your strategy?

Well sir, I have several bottles of Floid Blue. No rationing for me. I use it freely and when it's gone, it's gone. I will move on to something else.

I haven't been traditional wet shaving very long (almost 1.5 years), but I do like my Proraso green tube cream (old school formula). It should be gone in about 8 months or less.

Better to use it- can't take it with you Wink

...plus it gives me an excuse to order the new formula!

I'm also a "use at will" guy. Life's too short.

Use them until they are gone. In the words of Thoreau ...“Never look back unless you are planning to go that way.”

Most of my discontinued stuff is all still packed away in boxes. Still to be unpacked from my move. When I find it/unpack it I will use it freely..................or sell it to the highest bidder.Biggrin

I just use it as it was intended to be used.

Edit: So far I've only found one discontinued product that I really don't want to see go. "My" p.160. I have some of it in a refrigerator, and I'm thinking of getting more. Yup, that's right, hoarding. Nothing that I've ever used compares to it, some come close but just aren't there in the last notch of over the top tallowy almond goodness.

Rationing a discontinued product takes some of the joy away in its use. At least it seems that way to me. Besides, rationing discontinued products is only delaying the inevitable. For that reason, my take is to use it for as long as it lasts and then go on to the next great thing.

BTW - Super Iridium Extra Stainless blades are still sold by Gifts and Care.

Although I'm too new to this to miss anything yet, I think I'd happily use until it's gone ... as others above say, life is just too short.

Happily until its gone!

Don't need to ration it. The market is full of options, nowadays more than ever. When a soap/aftershave/etc. is gone, there is plenty of others to choose from.

I too just use what I have. However, I now have so many vintage items that it ends up being rationing anyway....

The only thing I have that is no longer made is P.160 and I use that without regard to it's scarcity. I can't that of anything that I have that I'd ration if they no longer made it.

Maybe I'm over-analizing, but... I couldn't help wondering what the 'age bracket' may be for the responses.

Personally, I'm an older fart and just plan on using it till I lose it. There would be no reason to ration.

Not to say that I don't have an interest in new goodies, I certainly do (AD will prevail Biggrin). I'm just saying something that I heard, from another member, in another Forum, about running out of current supplies... 'by that time, the drool cup will be firmly attached'.

use it. as soon as it's gone, another great product will either hit the market and/or be discontinued.

it's just shave product, i use it in rotation, as i do with all my products. yes, it'll be a shame with my LaToja in wood bowl is gone, but by the time i use it, i'll have another top quality product in my den and probably 1 or 2 more that have been discontinued

use it or lose it.

While I don't really have anything worth rationing at the moment, I would think I would just use up what I have a move on. However when it comes to samples, I have a hard time picking the "right" time to use them!

Use it. If I find a discontinued product that I like I will enjoy it until it's gone and leave what is left for others to enjoy after I'm gone.

You forgot to mention that though you use it you're snapping up as much as you can! :-P
