Leresche #51 open comb razor. One of the finest open comb razors around. No issues with this one. Plating intact, no handle cracks, very nice. Leresche open combs have a unique cutting angle that makes this razor not only extremely efficient but smooth and mild. It weighs 77 grams. No case. $115.00  SOLD

An aluminum Gibbs adjustable. It is anodized gold. Very smooth adjustable with a unique system from 1 to 6 on the adjustment scale. These are very nice razors to shave with. The aluminum version weighs in at 40 grams and is easy to use. The aluminum improves technique because of the weight. Does require a proprietary blade but modern double edge blades can be adapted to fit. I will include a tuck of the proprietary and one of the modern blades. So 10 in all. $75.00

For the Gibbs, can you adapt commercially available modern DE blades or do you have to get a specialty blade of some kind?

Leresche #51 seems promising. What other open comb razors do you like using? Anything you can compare it's shave to?

You can look for the Gibbs blades online and they are periodically available. Or you can adapt a modern blade. I will include a Tuck of both. The easiest way to adapt the modern blade is with a Dremel type tool to notch the ends. Look at the picture of the base plate and you can see what would need to be done.

Very similar to a Gillette New Improved. Also reminds me of the Wolfman open comb for a more modern razor. Heavy razor so it simply glides over your face. I use any blade with it but like Astra the best.

You mention the plating is intact on the #51 - what are the areas marked in the pic below?  Hard to tell from the pic

BTW - I have a Personna Micro-metric which is very similar to the Gibbs but uses standard blades.  It gives an AMAZING shave and i understand that the Gibbs is much the same!

Mark,
The areas you mark are shadows or the way the light is hitting the camera with one exception. The area on the barrel appears to be 3 knurling points slightly flattened, like something brushed against the razor at this point. The plating is still intact. It did not remove the silver plate. The picture is the best my camera can do on close up.
