We're getting ready to move.  And I'm having difficulty finding a packing tape that really sticks.  I've used Scotch from HD.  It's not sticky enough.

Any suggestions?  I'm looking for specific brand recommendations.  And, hopefully, something that can be bought locally.

Not sure what the post office uses but I love theirs. They usually have it on the rack with the boxes, envelopes, etc. Try using a lightly dampened cloth and wipe where you want to tape. Sometimes a very fine paper dust gets on them in the manufacturing process. I got frustrated enough in the past that I just used duck tape lol.

Clear duct tape is no joke Max, pricey but no regrets. For most of my tape guns I use the expensive and thicker 3M stuff.

We use 3 inch tape from rhino tuff. Dark brown translucent. I don't know if it is sold anywhere except by the skid. Stop by a local warehouse and see if they'll sell you a roll for a couple bucks. Chances are they'll give you a couple. I know I would if someone asked.

We use the heavy duty Scotch variety on our packages.  No complaints, but we're packing a few tins and bath bars in small boxes, as opposed to big, heavy stuff.

I'm moving as well, got 4 rolls of duck brand EZ start HD packing tape for around 9.00 at walmart. It's not the most expensive or the cheapest but it's holding my boxes together fine.

For years I just used the clear stuff from Staples. Now I buy in bulk from Uline, their brand. If you want an item number get back to me. I buy their light stuff and just use multiple wraps for additional strength. I never had any problem with adhesion with either brand.

I like IPS brand natural rubber tape. Uline and other brands make natural rubber tape too but I have not used those other brands myself. Natural rubber tape is considered the stickiest with the quickest adhesion. Because I'm such a nerd I once watched a youtube video explaing the different types of sealing tape:

I use cheap 3M bundles from the hardware store.  The best I have used is the post office stuff, but it's a bit too pricy if multiple roles are needed.

When I pack I like to use water activated reinforced Kraft tape.
Not as convenient as sticky tape but I think it gives good long term hold & strength.

Yes, this is the best kind of tape IMHO. Very strong.
