I've had Shavemac DO1 2-band brushes.  While I liked their backbone, I never found them soft enough.  When Shavemac came out with their silvertip 2-band, I thought that it may be the perfect knot for me.  I've been busy with other brushes and only recently got around to ordering the new 2-band.  I ordered it in the 173 handle, which is my favorite Shavemac handle.  I also ordered it in a 26mm knot set at a 50mm loft, which is my preferred knot configuration.

Here is a picture of the brush when it first came out of the box:

After only the first shave I knew I had a superb knot, with the ideal combination of density, backbone, flow and softness.

On the left is a picture of the wet brush after it's first shave, while on the right is a picture of the dry brush so you can see its post-shave bloom.

I want to address the shape of this knot.  I have a strong preference for bulb shaped knots.  In my experience, Thater is the manufacturer which consistently turns out the nicest shaped bulb knots.  (Although I've noticed that Vie-Long has also been producing some nicely shaped 2-band bulb knots).   This always posed a dilemma for me, as Thater brushes have lofts higher than I prefer.    However, Shavemac has solved this dilemma for me.  The shape of the bulb knot on this Shavemac is comparable to a Thater, and I can set whatever loft I want.

Here is the picture of my Thater on the left, and the new Shavemac on the right.  Both brushes have a 26mm knot, but the Thater has a 54mm loft.

Both of these brushes are definite keepers for me.  However, if I had to pick a favorite it has to be the Shavemac due to its lower loft.

I had been considering a fan with this hair, but that's one good-looking bulb.

Thanks for sharing photos of your beautiful brush. I normally prefer synthetic knots, but recently obtained a Shavemac 28mm 2 band Silvertip bulb, and am enjoying it more than I would have thought. I'll probably order the same knot in a fan in the near future.

Big Fan of the Tulip Knots.  I own Rooney's but no Shavemac's.  The next brush on my To Do List

Congratulations on the new brush. Mine arrived, yesterday, in a 28x50 Fan.
I think your post has just encouraged me to get up and give it its first use now. Biggrin

Ron, to help you along! Here is my Fan received, yesterday, in pre and post bloom. Knot is 28x50.

I agree with all the OP says. Knot is perfectly formed. It has great softness, yet still retains excellent backbone, and the flow is superb.

Totally agree on this.  I had Rudy Vey order me one of these knots for one of my handles and the new 2-band is quickly turning into my favorite knot.  Very good backbone, but more importantly this knot give up the lather effortlessly.

Many of the expensive 2-band brushes I've had would not give up lather without a struggle.  Currently considering ordering another one of these.

I have two more on order both fan and bulb.  This 2-band hair Shavemac has sourced is almost perfect for me.  Great backbone, flow through and soft tips.

That's a beautiful bloomer, David. Looks like Shavemac finally has a knot that I'd like -- other than the Savile Row. Biggrin

I'm currently snake-bit when it comes to brushes, Celestino, and waiting 'til the hex wears off. Should be soon.

After seeing Davids I went ahead and purchased the same brush only difference I went with the fan 26mm knot and a 48mm loft, It will be interesting to see how it compares to my Thater two band finest silvertip which is basically the same size knot and handle size If it's as good as that I will be more than pleased.

A very good choice, indeed, Jamie. I've never tried a Thater 2-Band, but my understanding is that the Shavemac will have more backbone.
