I love MdC and use it weekly cycling with Xpec and a few other soaps. There are some question I have for those of you who have the "Brain Bowl" in your rotation .

1. Does it lose it scent by being out and open all day? The scents of the original and fougere are really good in my book, and I would hate to lose them
2. Do you find the soap continuing to "cure" and become a even more solid, and therefore longer lasting in use?
3. Any other things you can tell me about it that one wouldn't expect until they bought one

I noticed that my MdC brain bowl lessened slightly in scent, but it never lessened enough to bother me.
I noticed no change in texture or consistency either.
Using mine in rotation for a year hardly made a dent in it. I never even got below the rim of the bowl before I sold it. I ended up selling because I decided I no longer enjoyed using MdC.

What are your favorites over MDC, Nathan ?

I also prefer a couple over MDC these days, among others: All 3 Klar, all 3 Valobra Triple milled, all 3 Saponifico Varesino, both Czech & Speak (Valobra made), all my 3 LPL and a couple of my B&M (Yes, I started out complaining over B&M, now I take a bow, but I'm fickle, I'll admit to that)

Claus, I've come to prefer many soaps over MdC. Here are a few.

1- Mystic Waters
2- Mike's Natural
3- CRSW
4- Barrister & Mann
5- Saponificio Varensino
6- LPL

MdC makes great lather easily, but the lather produced by all of the soaps listed above are, in my estimation, superior in every respect.

^I agree, I think MdC is no longer the vaunted high mark of soap quality that it was 5 years ago. Artisans have come a long ways since those early days of melt-and-pour glycerin bases, and I think the best tallow soaps have now surpassed MdC for lather and post-shave quality.

I have known this for almost four years, now, with two well-known artisan soaps!  Angel

Haslinger blows it away for me at about 1/5 the cost.

It's not even close in terms of shave quality and it's as easy to lather.

Well, Mike's, of course! The post-shave isn't as pronounced as I would like, but it is a fantastic soap.  Smile   I would also agree with Bruce regarding Haslinger; an excellent soap.

So I need to buy me some Haslinger ?
I have a porcelains mug from Mühle ready for it. Think it can accommodate 200-250 gram soap - so 3-4 Haslinger soaps :-)

What zhaslinger should I get ?

That would get my vote too. It was the first Haslinger I used and got me hooked. I've used three other scents since and they all perform wonderfully.

I'll have to take note the next puck of Schamfmilch I use to see if it's any slicker or has better post shave feel.

1) The Brain bowl doesn't "lose" scent when sitting out, however as you continue to use the product, the level drops and there is less surface area to "scent" the bathroom.
Here is my Brain Bowl new and after 33 shaves.
[Image: SCp5eBE.png]  [Image: emgjvVZ.png]
2) No. However, I used my Brain Bowl for 30 consecutive shaves, so the soap never had more than 23 1/2 hrs to dry out. The soap remained semi-hard, meaning I could press my fingers into it if I pressed hard. If you simply left it out, naturally water would evaporate, but that doesn't mean that you gain soap, just less moisture.
3) MdC will dry your face out, so use a good aftershave balm and/or moisturizers when shaving with it. The lavender scent is your only option when purchasing a Brain Bowl. It's pretty good, but I soon tired of it so I recommend that you purchase a glass jar of the Fougère instead.
One more thing: you can purchase almost 5 tubs of Mystic Water for what you'll spend on this soap. IMO, the Brain Bowl is a gimmick. I succumbed and purchased one, but after shaving with it 33 times, I PIF'd it. I'll still use my Fougère, but when it's gone, no more MdC for Primo.

I didn't notice any significant difference between the Schafmilch and the Honig. They were both just fine and, possibly, the former had a bit better post-shave, but it just wasn't very apparent to me.

After I used the sheeps milk, I used the Coconut and thought it was every bit as slick and moisturizing but with a better scent.

Sage is working out well for me right now too.

Great to hear, Bruce and looking forward to seeing if you find the Schafmilch any different to the others.

IMO, the Brain Bowl is a gimmick.

Color me cynical, but I believe MdC is a gimmick at this point. Who wants to pay $50+ for a soap that is outmatched in lather protection, slickness, and post-shave by soaps that are half the price? Even accounting for the fact that you get 200g versus the 100-125g of most artisan soaps.

It's a novelty. Beautiful presentation, "European elegance", and history. In terms of functionality it's obsolete.
