Thinking of keeping things simple for an upcoming trip, i.e. traveling without brush and using a brushless cream.

Any suggestions from those who have used such products?

The small Kiss My Face travel tubes are excellent. Don't discount shave oil either.

I've tried two; Rise and Aubrey Organics.

The Rise has plenty of glide, decent moisturising abilities, a scent that may not be everyone's cup of tea... and almost no cushion.
The Aubrey Organic likewise have plenty of glide, is fairly moisturising and a pleasant scent IMO... but no cushion at all.

I already see a pattern, despite just having two data-points.

The Rise shaves a little better, the Aubrey has a less artificial scent. None can compare favourable to a proper lather as far as cushion goes - I use one or the other once every blue moon, mostly because they are in my den. While I won't discourage you from trying, have you considered a cheap, semi-disposable brush (the Turkish No6 and No7 comes to mind) and a stick of Arko  Wink ?

Lucky Tiger Molle and even 3P 100ml shave cream works great as brushless and travels very nicely with its smaller size.

I used Kiehl's brushless White Eagle cream for YEARS before I started using a DE and brush. The stuff works quite well. It does not foam/lather. It just lays flat on the skin and gives a nice surface after softening your skin quite well.

The nicest one I've tried in this segment -- though it's on the pricey side -- is Malin + Goetz. I got some samples.
I also use and like H2O+ Marine Spa, which you can sometimes get at Marshall's or TJ Maxx for a very good price.

I find the Kiehl's agreeable but not quite as nice (or with as much menthol zip) as Malin + Goetz.

I would recommend this. Lime and Peppermint are the two available scent options. The Kiss My Face is a another option I would look into and go look at the local health food store.

I also use this for time to time, when I need to shave two days in a row, when I stay at hotels and my badger brush is not dry enough.
It's okay, nothing special, but it works.

I like the Santa Maria Novella shaving foam. It comes out as thick as Greek yogurt and has that nice Tobacco Toscano scent. Lee carries it here:

If you like foams, then try these two.
One is dead cheap if you buy the 400 ml can, the other more expensive, but has a very nice luxurious Acca Kappa 1869 scent to it. Bith performs top notch among shaving foams.
I would go as far as to say the Yellow Proraso foam performs on par with a pretty decent real shaving cream. It's that good, and I'm not exaggerating here !

After a 7-year hiatus, I just got a travel-size Signature to try out. The lack of cushion from these things still bothers me, but the glide is fine.

You are right lacks cushion but the scent is really killer, a step above for a brushless . Travel size is on target because that full size lasts forever and I believe it expires after a year.
