This is the first time I see this brush  After seeing this post I read about the brush on the Gifts and Care site.   I like the handle a lot.  I thought the handle was resin but the site says wood.  Is the whole handle wood, or just  the bottom part?

I believe that this is a new brush in the Vie-long line.  I just saw a Gift and Care announcement today.

They are calling it the American Style Barber Shaving Brushes.

That's a great looking handle, reminiscent of the vintage Rubberset & EverReady barber brushes.

I like the handle too.  But the real question is, what is the two band knot like in there?

If anyone gets one of these with the 2 band knot, please do post your experience here.

My concern would be with the high loft (50mm) coupled with the relatively small diameter of the knot (21mm.)

..I wonder what the Horse hair version is like. If it is an ok knot I´d get that. The upgrade to badger feels kind of expensive expensive to me,  I would prefer the toy value of the horse hair brush over what it likely is as a badger brush.

In two words: make that a stuffed synthetic knot, VL! Wink

Nein, nicht so taer!  For a high quality two band, I would say the price is right.  I have never found a horse hair brush to come even remotely close to a good quality badger hair for face feel.  Apparently this new batch of two band hair is one of the best Vie Long has ever procured.  If their marketing can be believed.

Synthetic...hmmmm, I suppose that could work.  Though the length of the handle would preclude the use for travelling which is what I suspect most people use their synthetic brushes for.  On occasion I do use my synthetics at home also.  But not very often when there is a choice of using a high quality badger brush.

Love the handle, but if the white and brown one is truly wood it's not for me.  How can we confirm if it's wood or not?

Ask them the question.  There is a contact us option on their website.

The website says it's a wood handle.  I put the question to Gifts and Care earlier in their Vendor post announcing the brush, and I also emailed the question to them, but have not received a response to either yet.  However, it does look as if the top part that the knot is set into may be resin.  I like the handle a lot, but would have preferred if the lighter colored one was an ivory resin.  However, it's such a nice handle that I'm considering getting one despite the reservations I usually have regarding wood handles.

I did, but no response.

My experience is they do respond to questions, it just may take a while.  Usually a full day or two.

......well, i finally purchased one of the Vie-Long American brushes (wood handle).........
.............i really like the handle......... but the knot is too sparsely packed for my taste.......
..........being that horses are not an endangered species, i don't think that Vie-Long would have gone bankrupt if they stuffed a bit more hairs into the knot....

.............in short, it was a bit disappointing.............

This was my fear also on buying the badger version. That and the loft height. Handle looks nice though. Maybe a re-knot candidate?
