Hello all,

While waiting for a Wolfman WR1-SB, an ATT M1and a Mongoose to arrive in the mail I would like to share some pics of old grooming/shaving kits that I've collected. What you see is part of my collection. Some of these are from the 20's/30's and some from the 50's/60's. All are of British manuafacture and some of them are signed (i.e.: "Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Company London").

Quality differed. On the one end we have ebony cloth - and hairbrushes, silver plated bottle caps, shave brush holders, soap boxes and horn combs. On the other end everything is chrome plated. Cases themselves are made either out of leather (the older ones) or somthing called 'Leatherette'(the more modern ones).

The overall quality however is good. It's a pity they stopped making stuff like this. Quality varies depended of course on what the original owner could or was prepared to spend. The sky was the limit here. Unfortunately until now I have been unable to find a kit by Garrard's for example, let alone a 19th century luxury travel case. Well ............ they would be out of my financial reach anyway unless I'm going to be lucky in the lottery

For the moment I am unable tot show my pièce de résistance. This is a very large, heavy, thick leather travel trunk that still is completely original. Even the canvas outer protective cover is there. On the inside are holders along the edges. Everything that is supposed to be in it is still there: ebony brushes, silverplated toothbrush holders and glass perfume bottles etc. I have the trunk stowed and I'l try to upload pics of it at a later date.

I hope you enjoy the enclosed pics!

Have you noticed a lot of the post 1950 "leather"kits have no real protection for the razor?

Gillette made some good kits post 1950 with good razor protection. The only post non Gillette kits seem to be made for the travel tech and made of metal with the plastic nest for everything.

The Gillette case sets were great, two styles I have seen. Best example would be the ww1 era officers cased set with razor, blade banks, and canisters for soap and brush. and the mirror. Second best would be the Gillette metal cases with a brush built in. Everything that comes in contact with skin is inside and sanitary, the "shoe" brush on the bottom, but hopefully just used for brushing off the coat.

This is really cool. A proper kit. I have the same kit related to my beard grooming and as I like growing and maintaining my beards,
I follow a trendy patterns to enrich them using beard growth products like beard oils and creams.
Thanks for sharing this images.

Those are nice! Do you just collect or do you have one set up that you actually use when you travel?

I always love the Poirot mysteries when David Suchet sets out more grooming gear in some tent or train washbasin than I have in my bathroom. Can you explain some of those tools?
