Hi all, I have been drooling over many of our artisan community brushes as most have I am sure. Doug Korn produces great work and I finally reached out to him to discuss making me a D7 (or "C7" like Celestino's!Wink).

What a great and fun experience it has been! Doug is extremely responsive and frankly patient with questions that began as 20 and finally ended at likely 3x that amount. On asking about the blanks he actually paired up suggested colors and took custom images to share in making a final decision. I was interested in a Pur-Tech knot so he also provided expert advice on knot size, loft etc. to finally arrive at what I am confident will be a fantastic brush.

I am excited to say I am now about 2-3 weeks away from finished goods and will circle back to share the final product but can't speak highly enough of the experience thus far. Our community of Artisans is really top notch and a special thanks to Doug in this particular instance.

Imagine Doug's grin when I explained that I wasn't quite sure the difference in the C7 and D7 handles Smile

Looking at photos of a C7 and D7, I got the impression the former's waist and base was a touch thicker, but wasn't sure if that was just an optical illusion. I also like the less pronounced rings on Doug's version of this handle style anyway since it just looks more comfy for gripping.

Hi Ron, the joke was on me as they are actually one and the same- Celestino just refers to his D7 as the C7. I had no idea either and Doug was patient enough not to rib me too much Smile

I have been naming my handles C7 for a few years now as they are Oscar11's interpretation of the M7/L7 style. I like the sound of C7 a bit better, though. Biggrin
Dave, both handles, Doug's and Oscar11's, are equally comfortable to use in hand, by the way. I have never had any issues, whatsoever.

Kevin, either way that's going to be a nice brush. As for me, so much for a career as CIA photo interpreter. Eyepop

You and me both- I had convinced myself enough to find differences as well and had decided on the C7!

Regardless, I am about as excited as I could be anticipating this brush- first truly custom product for shaving I have ordered and as mentioned Doug is simply a class act to deal with.

I'm quite happy with my ivory D7.

I have a 24mm Pur Tech on another handle set at a 55mm loft.  The knot has a substantial glue bump, which reduces the effective loft to less than 55mm.  It works for me because I like the backbone and I'm fine without a lot of splay.  I don't know if your knot will have the same glue bump.  If it does, and you like a lot of splay, you may want to discuss it with Doug.

Here's my Doug Korn custom that is somewhat similar to Celestino's D7/C7 all ambers. Smile

Very nice brush Kyle.  Is that a Plisson knot?  If it is, did Doug remove it from the original handle and transplant it for you?  I know he does that with H.I.S. knots, but had not seen one of his brushes with a Plisson knot.

Celestino, I sure need to dust off my camera and get to work outside taking SOTD's.  I live near woods, so I think I could capture some wonderful color out of this brush and a shiney Mongoose. Smile

More great examples of Doug's work- thanks for posting! Also, thanks Ricardo for the tip on the loft. I have guidance from Doug but will ensure we factor in the bump. I do like a fair amount of backbone and also face lather exclusively.

Thanks all!

Doug exceeded anticipated completion date by nearly two weeks and my new DK brush is out for delivery today! In the meantime, here is an image of my finished brush that Doug forwarded. Doug was a great pleasure to work with as mentioned and I am really looking forward to receiving the brush later this afternoon.

Finished specs:

D7 two tone handle, Aquamarine, Blue Steel with Hornet Rings
Pur-Tech knot, set at 28mm and 51mm loft

Looking forward to face lathering tomorrow and will post additional pics. Thanks Doug!
