That's a great price! However, is it really worth that much more than the Colonel 2XL? I own the Colonel which is a 22mm knot with a 46mm loft and a 54mm handle, and the Duke is a 23mm knot with same size loft at 46mm, but has a shorter handle at 46m. Is the Duke perhaps more dense, or is it the handle that people prefer when purchasing the Duke? It does look like a nice handle by the way.

The Duke is quite a bit denser than the Colonel.

Interesting. I consider the Colonel very dense. How well does the Duke splay on the face when face lathering? Does it hog lather at all?

Don't go by the specs listed on Amazon. D3's usually come with larger knots and taller lofts.

Yeah, Duke 3s are usually around 25mm diameter and between 48-50mm high.

I've never used the Duke or the Colonel, but that is what I have consistently read over the years.

I would suspect the Colonel would splay easier and more. Perhaps owners or those that have tried both could chime in about the specifics.

I've had both and you are correct. Duke 3 is denser, Colonel splays a bit more and may release lather a bit better.

I don't own either any longer.

The Duke is a nicer brush, in my opinion. The knot is denser and, personally, I prefer it to the Colonel. Having said this, I found the Duke 3 too small and got a Chubby 2 Super.

I find the Duke 3 a little bit more dense but not a huge difference in this regard. I should say that my Colonel is a few years older than my Duke, and this older batch had more scritch than more recent hair. The Duke 3 knot does feel a bit bigger in use than the Colonel.
