Good evening, I received a smelly boar brush today, strangely its the first that has been this way. So I tried to find a soap to remove the wet hog smell. Tiki The Captain managed the job best for me, but was wondering what is your best soap or cream to 'de-funk' a stinky knott?

HI!

I would try to clean all surface residue inside the brush and deep in the knot before that. Shaving soap may build up residue on top of it... uh
My choice would be facewash detergent used and kneaded in several times after long a long soak in water, and half a minute vinegar soaking, that 2 times interchanging at least.
If it stinks on, throw it!

Philipp

I like to use cologne soaps to get rid of smelly brushes. Son of Zeus works well

My buddy uses MWF for this. Not sure why he said so but he prefers to break in new arrivals in the den with the Fat.

Thanks for the advice, another use for vinegar! Quite sure the soap has been cleaned from the knott, will give it another good soak just incase.

Make that diluted vinegar, I use a third vinegar, 2 parts water. Good luck! Smile

I use shampoo to defunk my brushes, but occasionally i use I Coloniali to drown out the smell since the scent is fairly strong.

I always wash my new boars three times in a liquid dish washing soap, usually Dial, Palmolive, or Dawn.  That usually does the trick.

My routine is wash with Dawn, rinse, 1 minute vinegar soak, rinse, then lather up with something pungent, usually Tabac, and let the lather sit overnight on the bristles.  If still some funk, repeat.  A couple boars required 3 repeats

I use Crabtree and Evelyn's West Indian Limes because I love the scent, but the lather is subpar.

Or I do have a tin of VP Leonhardy's brush cleaning soap, which has a nice citrus scent.
