Just bought my first straight razor though I been DE shaving for almost a year pulled the trigger on this beauty. My question is where is the best place to send this out to get it shave ready since I don't want to learn straight shaving and honing at the same time. Please suggest places you have used and your experiences. [Image: hsDJzd9.jpg]

Not sure where you are located, but I have used Bob Keyes at bobsrazors.com.  He has honed a couple of razors for me.  He has very quick turn around and reasonable mailing fees.  His packing was immaculate.  I called him and he was willing to spend as much time as I needed answering any questions I may have had.  I lived about 40 minutes from his shop so the first time I dropped off my razors.  I wanted to meet him.  He is a very experienced, long-term straight razor shaver.  He has been straight shaving longer than most of us have been alive.  I would highly recommend him.

I also saw that thesuperiorshave.com will hone your razors for free (even if you did not purchase them there).  They use coticules  to hone them.  The only blades they will not hone are wedges.  I cannot vouch for the quality, but they go into great detail about this service on their site.

Good luck.

Thanks for the information. I live in NY I don't mind waiting or the quick turn around just want to make sure they take there time and really do a good job

Bob is definitely familiar with them. He has two for sale right now. Nice blades. It wouldn't hurt to give him a call and just talk with him. He will give you great guidance.

Based on my own experiences (many others have echoed this) I would very highly recommend Doc226 (Alfredo.)  He uses Jnats and the edges he does are second to none.  He is located in Rhode Island.  Very nice guy too.

I forgot all about Doc.  He does do a nice job honing.  Did one for me once.

No question for me, Alfredo. He's a gentlemen who certainly knows his way around a straight razor. Not to say that the three mentioned above are not good choices. I've bought restored razors from them, I've had my razors restored from them, and they're great, but my hard earned dollar goes to Alfredo.

I have used Alfredo Gill and he is very good and fast. Howard at the Perfect Edge is also tops. Lynn at Straight Razor Designs is also on the top of the list.

Amen to that.  He really puts a heck of an edge on a razor and it seems to last a long time.  I have sent him old Genco's I bought and they came back and shave better then new.
