The Plisson HMW genuine horn handled brushes rank among my favourites...

A visit to the Plisson website today resulted in their noticeable absence. Does anyone know if they are discontinued?

Out of interest the genuine (pre-cites) ivory was also nowhere to be seen.

I did note the return of the Plexi, however...

I understand Plisson's synthetics currently hold much favour (and I own a few myself)...

So is this simply stock issues, or something more disappointing with a move to abandon more expensive natural materials?

Such a beautiful collection of horn

Correct Ben, I was looking at plisson site an hour ago and found the same. No more horn so basically one can't get anything more than size 14 in HMW or they can go with Plexi which is available in big size but it's pure and not HMW.

In recent times, Plexi was really only ever available in EW. The HMW (I pictured above) with the black collar (as opposed to the white) was a special offering/order.

I wrote Plisson several days ago asking specifically about Plexi handles.  Something was
lost in the translation between my inquiry and their response since their response was
off point.  I have sent another message asking again regarding the availability of any
Plexi handle brushes.

I believe they refer to the Plexi handles as Cristal on their site. If you search using this term they can be found and checked for availability.

If this is true, then I am very glad I pulled the trigger on my Horn Handled size 18 HMW a few months back, I debated picking one up for one for months! Ben, your collection is spectacular!

I had heard rumours about this months ago, pretty much from the moment the Plexi handle was reintroduced, albeit only in EW (and apparently 2-Band). If this is indeed the case, then it is a sad day for wetshaving, as Plisson's horn handles are (were?) by far the best ones on the market, both in terms of finish and detail. Nothing else really comes close.

Am I correct in assuming that the prices shown on the Plisson website include VAT?

If that is correct, when is the VAT deducted from the price on shipments to the U.S.?

After putting together an order and the payment page appears, the VAT is still included in the price.
Is there a step in the ordering process that I have missed?

Currently:

In genuine horn, HMW, sizes 24, 20, 18, 16, 12, 10 and 8. (I need a 14 and 6 to complete the line up).

I also have a couple of pre-cites genuine ivory.

5 synthetics.

I've owned more, including a number of EW brushes in sizes 10 and 12 (in various handles including plastic, faux tortoise and metal) and a HMW Plexi...

I would say that the latest horn handled offerings from Simpsons are in fact superior to the Plisson I have.  I can't speak to the older handles which from the pictures look more "solid"... Regardless this is a bummer, I was hoping on expanding my horn handled collection with more from Plisson...

In my opinion they are not - The finish as well as the level of detail on the horn Plisson handles is superior, IMO. But, as always, YMMV.
