Gentlemen:  After months of development and testing, we are finally able to release The Beehive, which was introduced in "beta test" form on these pages several weeks ago.  I can very candidly say that this brush has been through more design, testing and re-work iterations than any other piece to emerge from my studio.  Why that was, I cannot say.  (Perhaps I'm getting really picky in my old age Confused .)  I can also say that the CAD program got a real workout.  In between computer work (and re-work), several test models were crafted, finished, tested, then put back onto the lathe for tweaking until the final shape, size and weight were attained.  Finally, two beta versions were sent to friends for testing.  I am happy to report that both of those brushes found permanent places in their testers' dens.

The end result is something of which I am particularly satisfied. I guess the closest I can come to describing the experience of this brush is that it's akin to holding a Best Grade English double gun.  I hope you will agree.

Each brush is completely hand-crafted by me using only the design drawing, old-fashioned calipers to establish basic dimensions, then shaped "by eye" on a manually-controlled wood lathe with hand-held tools.  The hair is 29mm Finest Badger hand-tied in China for us by the most accomplished knot maker we could find.  Bottom line:  your new brush will be uniquely yours.  And one I believe you will be proud to own and use for years to come.

Right now one is available in our web store where you may see the details.  We have more on the schedule, but due to the longer than usual time it takes for this finish to cure, we expect there will be a waiting list.

Thank you all for your encouragement and patience!

Brad, congratulations and thanks for sharing a snapshot of the journey. I, and I am sure the majority of the community, love hearing the backstory.

Great looking brush and one that would be a welcome addition to any shaver's collection based on your description and images.

Is that knot going to splay at all?  The handle looks huge compared to the knot.

Symmetry in knot/handle size doesn't equal performance or ergonomics. Peacocks are pretty until they wake you up at 4AM and you slip on the driveway from their calling cards.

Yes it does--about 50% larger.  But as Kav alluded, this brush is designed for performance.  Aesthetics are important, of course, but if a brush doesn't deliver the goods, it's not worth much.   Blush

BTW, this one sold a little over an hour ago.  If anyone's interested in getting on the wait list, send me a PM.  No payment due until you approve a pic of the completed brush.

Thanks so much for your interest!

Hector, If you're drinking your alcohol based aftershaves we need to hold hands and recite the serenity prayer.

Brad,

Is there any chance that you could post a picture of the beehive after blooming out ?
A picture of the bloomed prototype is also nice. I would love to see the beehive at its full glory.

30 years on your grandfather's collectable calendar of Buffalo Bill's Congress of Rough Riders doesn't count. It has to be sometime after birth and a few minutes before this terrible rumor I just learned about to count towards sobriety; a questionable condition if in the same room as a single malt scotch. Now, as to the brushes? Well, Hector and I are sober enough to order before the Christmas rush and posts begging owners to sell  6 months from now. Sbathroom_grooming_shaving_100-100

On a serious note, I didn't realize how beautiful these brushes are.
