I've done a few just using some dawn dish soap and water, two cycles of 480 seconds without submerging the handles of course. I've done a bunch of my wife's makeup brushes as well with good results. Pretty gross the crap that comes out of those. None of my shaving brushes really ever release much that I've noticed.

Borax, 5 - 10 minutes holding the handle above solution.

............is the Borax cleaning method also good to sanitize brushes that are purchased used, and vintages brushes?

There have been claims that it does sanitize, but I do not have the substantiation nor the expertise to advise that it does. I can say that it does deodorize and cleans well in an ultrasonic. Using Borax and lukewarm water I clean all my shaving brushes this way in an ultrasonic.

I think you've started something. I've been meaning to buy one of these things for a while, cleaning a BRUSH is reason enough now.

I'm sure Amazon loves us when we all decide we need scales, calipers and now ultrasonic cleaners Smile

I feel as I might still be a bit of a relic as I still only rinse my brushes after use and have never cleaned them, any other way! Biggrin
