I recently bought a bunch of sample soaps and creams and one of those samples was B&M's Velvet, a shaving soap for women. I didn't notice the label said it was for women or I would have not purchased it. I'm glad I did. The scent is the perfect amount of sweet with a bouquet of floral notes just amazing. As far as performance it is just as good as all the other B&M soaps I have tried. Easy to lather, very slick with great cushion. Definitely my favorite scent by B&M, Its crazy how I would have never know it existed if I would have seen the "For Women" on the label. I never thought to look as I haven't really seen too many shave soaps or creams that are marketed to women. Even the roses and other floral scents aren't marketed for women. On my next soap order I bought the full size to slip into my rotation at $11 for a 4oz puck I was happy to pay. If you love floral scented soaps I recommend you give this one a try, don't pass it up just because it says for women. Its a true delight, the best accidental finding I've made and if you don't like it you can pass it on to your significant other! Of course this is imo ymmv.

Have not tried the velvet but I did pick up the 3 new Latha's. Great soaps! Will have to look at the velvet sometime.

maggards sells samples at $2.75 but at $11 for a tub its almost better to just gamble with the big size

Interesting.  I am a fan of floral scents, and I don't really care if they are marketed to women or to men.  If they smell great, lather great, and shave great, I'm happy.

Thanks for the heads up.

While I enjoy floral scented soaps, I found Velvet to be so sweet that it was almost "sickening sweet," similar to an old woman's perfume.  W00t

Looked it up because I like floral scents.  Found it is a Latha formulation.  Evnpar's review take me aback a bit, though.

It seems that in the wet shaving community, "feminine" is a relatively loose construct. If you like the scent there is no reason not to use it

I compared the ingredients to other B&M soaps and it is very different for sure. However, I compared it to Strop Shoppe and it is nearly the same list. Strop Shoppe is an all star performer so I would imagine the B&M Velvet is similar in performance.

B&M Velvet = Stearic Acid, Tallow, Water, Glycerin, Coconut Oil, Potassium Hydroxide, Sodium Hydroxide, Fragrance, Agan Oil, Shea Butter, Sodium Citrate, Sodium Lactate, Vitamin E

Strop Shoppe = Stearic Acid, Tallow, Glycerin, Coconut Oil, Cocoa Butter, Shea Butter, Fragrance, Saponifying Agents: Potassium Hydroxide, Sodium Hydroxide

I didn't think we were allowed to talk about B&M here anymore.

Talk about any kind of soap or shaving product; no problems. Shilling for soaps or shaving products; problem.

hope thats not what people think I'm doing, I have no ties to any company just wanted people to hear my experience from a soap most would pass over as it is marketed to women.  The only money I make off of soap and shaving goods is on the Buy/Sell/Trade!

Just because soaps are similar ingredients does not necessarily mean that they perform similarly. The amount and concentration of each ingredient has an immense affect on the performance and you can't really tell that by simply looking at that ingredients list.

That being said however, the B&M Latha does performa fantastically. Slightly different than the White Label but equally as good

I was once told by a co-worker he could watch how I did things then he could do it himself. Right.
Like great food, great shaving soap is made from a process. Lots of details during the making.

Had no idea there was any issues with B&M. However they make a fantastic soap. Don't keep them around since their scents aren't really my style but performance wise it is fantastic.

Don't know the details and don't care to but they apparently did a no no and are currently banned. Does not mean we can't discuss the product though. They are fantastic performers! Some of the scents are not for me but the ones I do like I keep in stock.

I've got a handful of barrister and Mann soap samples. For ME its an average performing soap BUT I am not a fan of any of their scents so far .
