Gentlemen,

This morning I had a silky shave with my Le Grelot, which was a sign that I would have a lovely day. This afternoon I visited my barber and he gave me a gift of two old razors he had used many years ago: a 5/8 Bengall wedge with a short tang and an old 5/8 Boker. I have not viewed the razors under a scope yet. The Bengall has some honewear, but it is still in good shape for its age. The Boker also looks good. I can't wait to hone them and merrily shave away.

Awesome gifts. I think both are what they have been used for: professional shaving tools!  Smile

Thank you, Johnny. Yes, the Boker is a beauty. The is the old Tree Brand Boker. By the way, the Boker is a near wedge razor, whereas the Bengall is a full wedge. Both are known for their steel and grinding quality. Every old Boker and Bengal I have had has been a lovely shaver. I can't wait to hone them.

I don't know a thing about straight razors, but I have to say, those handles are lovely.  Congratulations Obie!

Thanks, Hector. Bengall and Boker (the old Bokers) are legendary. They are great shavers.

Gentlemen,

Old time barbers are a special breed of craftsman and conversationalist. Mine happens to be generous, too.

Not only are they great blades, the gift and meaning behind that, the history of it all.. makes those incredible.  Sure we all love vintage blades and they all have history.  So often though we are totally disconnected from the history.  We know it's there but have no idea about what it is.

In this case, that's all different because they were a gift, from a connection point to their history!

They're awesome!

Mike, thank you. I honed both razors and they took a good edge. I used the Boker on today's SOTD.

good on ya Obie. Sometimes good things happen just by being around others who know our passion for wet shaving. I had a client give me earlier this year a Mint Double Duck just because he was fascinated by my stories about shaving and new I was passionate about it.

Now if only someone would gift me some more goodies like that as the bar was set really high with that one!

Awesome Obie. I give you all credit for launching my obsession with Bengalls.
