Just a reminder that discussion of kickstarter campaigns (and similar vaporware) is strictly forbidden on the Shave Nook. It is simply too ripe for abuse.

What is a kickstarter campaign?  What is vaporware?  I've never seen these terms before.

Online fundraising campaigns for products that aren't yet made/available for sale.

Often times, style over substance in terms of the marketing hype to attract people.

Is it OK to discuss projects in which the backing period has ended?

For the purposes of this rule the crowd-funding period is considered to lasts until a product is released for general sales.

My crystal ball says this is an area ripe for getting into trouble.  I think I'll just keep calm and shave on!

Here you go: Wikipedia | Kickstarter

As mentioned it's crowdfunding. However, it's more...it's a form of investing and comes with financial risks. Also, some use it for feedback in their product development. The problem on a forum, like this, is that you can waste a lot of time on threads that ultimately end-up nowhere or yield shoddy products. When and if the product does come to fruition, then the inventor should become an official vendor or artisan on the forum to discuss and promote their wares.
